Forums - Gaming - What game do you think will win the graphics award for 2009?

KZ2 is years better then everything else on the market.

hopefully the best one

As I mentioned in the other post on LP2 - "Explosions best over any current console game out.

Effects : Smoke, fire, shockwaves from explosions all better than any console game out to date."

No. What's that one guy's username? "Nojustno"? That. LP2 does look very good. I'm pleasently suprised with hit. But the smoke isn't even close to K2. Unless you're referencing something different than the link you posted. It wouldn't be 2nd either.

Much of it does look good...but to say the smoke looks better than in KZ2 makes it tough for me to believe much of the rest of your opinion on the game...

@ Epicurean. What link I posted. I havent posted any? Just videos. KZ2 was amazing, but I saw no explosions in KZ2 beat the ones in the LP 2 video. You sure you werent playing KZ3 in the future somehow?

@Selnor
Not only it is not mind-boggling, it doesn't even push the envelope set by Gears. I tried pointing out objective technical details, you dismiss them and prefer to hype everything you like as if it's the second coming.

My take: if you really want an impressive engine, point to the CryTek engine or to Alan Wake from what was visible in the old tech demos.

In other conditions, I could debate on why I find that shader postprocessing cheap, or why you are wrong about explosions, smoke, animations and details, but that's apparently not a conversation you want to sustain. Thus, tag me a fanboy and bask in the comforting warmth of your opinion in the company of "million of other gamers", I won't stand in your way :)

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

You can talk about whatever technicalities you want. I dont care if LP2 characters have 2 polys less per character, what I visually see on the screen is what I base to be more or less impressive than another game. LP 2 could be made with the Mario 64 engine and I wouldnt give a crap. If it looked better with that engine then I'd say it.

I have said that I think 2009 media graphics award would go to Alan Wkae or Sc or Heavy Rain. But LP2 is impressing me for 2010. Normally I'd be careful about what I say on this site about anyhting against the precious KZ2 ( of which I stated is my top graphics currently we can buy at the shops for consoles. ) but after watching this, it's fairly a no brainer visually for me.

I havent finished KZ2 yet I will add, I have only played about 3 hours of the campaign. But just watched a video of grenades going off in KZ2 and barrel explosions, and it's not even close to LP 2's explosions. KZ2 had no shockwaves, flames did not have the detail of LP2's and the smoke always comes out in lines and there isnt as much of it.

Like I said it's for me to say what impresses me more.

@Selnor
I respect all subjective opinions when it comes to liking and disliking something.

I can see how someone would vote for Muramasa (I'll buy it as soon as I can, as I loved Odin's Sphere) instead of a 3d game, because it looks gorgeous.
Or that you can like LP2 visually more than any other game you've actually played - or even just seen in trailers or demos.

But when you use the word "benchmark" you enter a different realm, one of measurable properties, and that's why I -wrongly, it seems- steered the conversation towards technical details. There's no benchmark of expressionist paintings and there's no benchmark of swing music. But there's a benchmark for read speed of SATA drives or for low aperture numbers of sub-$100 lenses.

You want to keep it subjective, that's fine, that's not even something that can be debated. Just an advice: words are important, and people might ask you to keep to their strict meaning. Don't talk the talk if you won't walk the walk :)
