Forums - Sales - NPD Canada August

I noticed the Wii going up to $289 as well, but Quebec != the rest of Canada. Quebec is a really weird province that gets screwed out of a lot of things, (contest eligibility anyone?) and some stores charge more than others, but the big retail ones are the ones that generally keep the same prices. $700 was just some greedy store, probably a small store, looking for more $$$$.

I've updated my article as promised.

Among completely comparable software, and definitely among hardware, Vgchartz did a superb job in August.

But I did better :) Well on hardware of course. I couldn't begin to predict software.

This 26k 360 is going to push 360 sales to almost exactly my 310k estimate..

Dont mess with me on 360 sales, vgchartz :)

Vgchartz does well but you keep seeming to miss one obvious outlier each month. The last two months being the 360 undercounted.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but it seems to me like 360 could push 450-500k in 5 week September. At any rate, even if it has a conservative month, 360's September USA NPD is going to obliterate all kinds of Xbox (1 or 360) records. It's going to be the best selling non-holiday month for a microsoft console, ever. And also the first one over 300k. Doing all this at an average price point (when you combine Elite and Premium sku's, core sales are almost non-existant) probably at $375 or higher. Pretty amazing. 360 is showing some real signs of breaking out.

In contrast to the US, Canadians actually got a reasonable price reduction of $100 ($500 to $400) on the priemium XBox 360 bundle which still contains the incentives that Microsoft has been pushing for awhile; and the PS3 dropped from $700 to $550. This was mostly because of a (long due) correction in the prices due to the exchange rate.

Incorrect. The PS3 was always $659.99 and it dropped to $559.99. It was never $700. I can attest to that because #1. I am Canadian. #2. I've been to many Canadian retailers and they are ALL that price, at least the big named retailers.

Rendo where do you live?  I live about a 30min drive outside Toronto and the PS3 came out at $659 it then jumped to $700, it was at this price until about 2 weeks before the price drop then it hit $659 again, then when the price drop hit it went to $549-$559 depending on the store.  The $700 price was at all Canadian stores.

I work at Zellers in Ottawa. Wii's are $289. PS3's were bumped up to $699, and recently dropped. We've got 80gigs on sale for $659 I believe.
