Forums - Sony - Can we seriously just end the UMDless rumor... its not true..

i have many reasons behind this but ill just say the most notciable thing i came by, HOW THE HELL would any1 be able to download kingdom hearts birth by sleep? the game is going to be like 2 gigs lol. (thats just one game example) plus i dont feel like buying  abunch of memory sticks and like labelign them i guess with which games they have on them, kinda  stupid idea.

also, y would gamestop for example want to sell it? their largest market is used games, the umdless rumor means no used games...

yes!!! finally someone whos tell the truth!

cause we all dream of no more UMDs. But i agree with you it isnt going to happen as much as we would like

Long Live SHIO!

Let's just say that GameStop is probably heavily fighting this. ;)

Yeah, then the next thing we know you will be telling us all that the no blu-ray PS3's are fake too, get real.

I don't htink the rumor is retarded at all. As much as I'd hate a UMD-less PSP, it makes sense from a piracy standpoint, and it makes sense if they're trying to make the next PSP more of a competitor for Apple's products, to prevent the iPod Touch and iPhone from stealing marketshare.

Plus, the release of Patapon 2 in NA shows that they are seriously considering a DD-only distribution model in the near future.

The only issue would be for those that want to upgrade, but have all UMD games.  Most games are available in both UMD and on the PSN now, but if you already bought a game on UMD, they'd have to work out some plan for you to obtain a downloadable version.

Talk about setting yourself up...

You think sony likes gamestop selling used games? Why would they want gamestop to sell used games when they don't get any profit from it?

The game companies have all been moving to digital distribution so they can get away from having their profits stolen from used game retailers like gamestop. The psp just might be the first console that will go completely digital distribution.

However, I don't think it's true that it will be completely digital distribution, but I don't think it will have umd's. I think psp2 games will actually come on memory sticks, kind of how ds games are basically on sd cards. Sony will also give you the option to completely install the game on your internal memory if you want.

That is what I think anyway, but I'm pretty sure the next psp won't have umd's.

Plus, the UMD drive was the main reason behind the PSP's crappy battery life.
