Forums - PC - Official Team Fortress 2 Thread

well there is always Hawaii =P

But seriously, I'm gonna go get ready for bed and check in one last time before I just wait till morning.

Well mine just updated, and is ready to play, they made it with 11 minutes to spare(it's still monday here in washington). Whats ironic about it, is I just launched fortress forever(a half life 2 mod, which is much like team fortress(if by chance you didn't know)) when the updater poped up. As if to say to me, 'no no.. don't play that game you can play tf2 now!'

Edit: well scratch that 'ready to play' line, it acts as if it is, but when I try to launch it, it gives me the preparing to launch window, then drops it back down to downloading, which says 100%, then pops back up to 100% ready, oh it's ready, you just can't play it.

decrypting now~

edit: lol its stuck at 14% decryption =P

hah, oddly enough mine stuck at 14% for a little while as well, then finished quickly after that, although it still won't let me launch the game. I suppose it's a good thing I wasn't planning my day around this like many people, but I was going to give it a try when I got home from work late tonight(wait, last night now). But oh well, I really bought this for portal, episode 2, and tf2 were just bonuses I might as well play, they'll get it up pretty soon I imagine.

got past decryption and got same problem you did so I told it to validate (too longer than I thought it would) its just finishing up now.

I am reading on some other forums and very few people are getting in, most are having this problem it seems though.

from what I have been able to read about online it seems they are having issues where only their employees can log in for whatever reason. Supposedly working on a fix already but no clue how long that it is supposed to take.

Well now mine just updated again, 1:15ish pst here seems to be working.

yay, finally was able to play it. Lauching the game and getting in a server was the hardest part.

Ive never played TFC before so still learning the game elements, but this game is ****in insane! So much stuff going on at once.

I don't think I'll be playing HL2 that came along w/ Orange box, with this game in action.

crappy old school NES games are more entertaining than next-gen games.

Yeah this game takes a little getting used to, but it's all sorts of fun, Fortress Forever is very similar, since of course it was based off of team fortress one, but obviously tf2 is better still, even in beta(I haven't seen any real problems so far(besides some animations/voices aren't there yet, but I can't call that a bug, or even a problem).

Ok, what I learned for those looking for a bit of a head start.....

Spy: A lot of people seem to trust medics running backwards =p  What I mean is, he can disguise himself as any class and appear as a member of the opposite team which even fools sentries. But the best way to get past the enemie's "front lines" is using the stealth ability, since nobody trusts a blue heavy running past the red team to join the blue team mid fight. Then once through the lines you can find yourself a nice secluded spot to reappear and run out. They can cause engineers some headaches by sapping/destroying their sentries or you can find lone players and backstab them for insta-death. But regardless your style this class is a lot of fun to play and makes you feel so evil muahaha....

Engineer: Great in close combat with shotgun and for closed in spaces with sentries... but in wide open areas he sucks because the sentries have pretty short range on their targeting and shotgun loses to rocket launch in the open. In addition to the sentries he provides some important support abilities in the Dispenser which provides healing to anyone teammate in need of it. And of course he can place the teleport start/end points which speed your team up tremendously when attacking a long distance away or when they have to run through some dangerous areas to get to the good defense points.

Heavy: Combine a heavy with a good medic who can provide invulnerability and you have a very deadly combo. He is stupid slow when firing but death awaits anyone who ends up in the path of the bullets...provided he is somewhat close to them. He also has a metric F-ton of health so he can take a beating.

Sniper: Having to wait for the insta-kill shot to charge is somewhat annoying if you are used to other sniper weapons, but ultimately its a good balance that prevents shooting from the hip. There are some pretty good sniper spots if you know what to look for and the sniper is easily countered with spies who just backstab the bastards. All in all you can rack up some pretty good kills with this guy if you know what you are doing and have the aim for it.

I didn't spend any time playing the scout, medic, soldier, pyro, or demo guy yet. Saving those for tomorrow. I probably missed a class but oh well, I am tired and I am heading to bed.

Right now I think the respawn timer is way too long, 20 seconds seems to be the norm and honestly being out of the action that long just sucks.
