I don't know but you don't see this kind of crap when a new game is announced for the PS3. It seems we can't even have a Square Enix thread in the Microsoft forum without Sony fanboys coming in and whining. Instead of blaming Square Enix blame Sony. They're the ones that saddled the gaming world with the Cell and delayed the launch of their console by the inclusion of Blu-Ray. If there was any real justice their lack of respect for developers should have been met in kind with a complete lack of support for the PS3.

FM1 Good.
FM2 Don't know
FM3 Amazing
FM4 Horrible.
FM5 Don't know.
Why 4 was so bad i can't say either. They didn't change that much... it's just... the gameplay just got a lot less fun somehow. I think the overlarge battlefields had something to do with it... but i'm not sure.
The new skill system didn't help either I don't think. The FM3 system was best.

What other games do you compare it to?

They're your basic "Grid based" SRPGs. Like Tactics Ogre, Final Fanasy tactics... most tactics games.
The big differences being that in Front Mission 3 you can mix and match parts to make your custom robots...
and that Each part has it's own HPs. So the Body, Legs, Right arm and Left Arm have different HPs. When you target a mech you can't pick the bodypart you want to hit unless you've got a skill.
If the Body goes, the Wanzer goes. If the Legs go, the wanzer is reduced to 1 movement, and if the arms go you take out the weapon they have in that arm.
Additionally you can kill the pilot with some skills and attacks, or sometimes force them to "eject" and can capture there mechs or control them in battle.
Also, ranged weapons are generally favored.

Off the top of my head...Halo Wars, Age of Empires, Rise of Nations?...hm.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Interesting... from what I've played of the original Front Mission, wasn't it like Shining Force or Fire Emblem, but with robots? That was turn based SRPG.
Couldn't real time SRPG also be like Last Remnant?
