Forums - Microsoft - Star Ocean 4 : questions.

The thing about SO4 coming to the PS3 is:

We've only seen a few 360 JRPGs goto the PS3: Enchanted Arms (which was by a dev that worked quite a bit on PS titles), Eternal Sonata, and Tales of Vesperia (soon).

The issue is that ToV was semi-inevitable, given the fact that Eternal Sonata shares the same engine as ToV.

If SO4 was to come to the PS3, the precursor would be IU to the PS3. And that hasn't been announced yet. Not a good sign for a troll like PS3beats360.

are you sure that tov and es share the same engine? because if it the fact, then why eternal sonata background are much much much much more detailed than tov's? If tov and es share the same engine, then es is using it better than tov.

As for the iu case, perhaps it's a rumor but i've heard it was somehow "paid" by microsoft.

Thanks to all and to your answers, i finally made my final choice about that game (which was already quite done before the questions but my choice was confirmed by that)

I preordered this :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Ocean-Last-Limited-Collectors/dp/B00284ANW6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1241448744&sr=8-2

"Star Ocean: The Last Hope – Limited Collector's Edition contains:

  • Limited edition Star Ocean: The Last Hope Box: Unique 'digistack' packaging with dual gatefold, inside a special collector’s sleeve.
  • Star Ocean Soundtrack Compilation CD: The STAR OCEAN Sound Best Collection showcases key themes from across the series that are specially chosen by the game creators and series fans.
  • Five Star Ocean: The Last Hope Character Cards: Collectable prints of lead characters from the game, using rare artwork not officially released in Europe and other PAL countries.
  • Brady Games Official Miniguide: 32 page game guide printed in full colour, with extra character artwork, descriptions and walkthrough information - to help you on your journey through the universe.
  • Three Star Ocean: The Last Hope Game Discs: Expansive galactic adventuring goes across three game discs, accompanied by full colour play manual.  "

i preordered it on a uk site thinking it will help me to spend less money than on a french site (price was 52 pounds (55 euros) instead of 70 euros in france) but i did not foresee that they add "VAT", which put the game to 70 euros... why can't English (both american and british) sites speaks in "all taxes included price"...  well, with the shipping cost, a French game would have cost 80 euros, but still... making a 10 euros saving when i was thinking making a 30 euros saving... what a little disapointement. (and to think i will play the game in french and the guide will be in english lol, i could translate or begin the game twice lol)

As for the soundtrack, i would have thought that it was a star ocean 4 soundtrack, instead it's a "all star ocean soundtrack"... can't be bad if they put "cutting edge of notion" (battle theme) from star ocean 3 in.

And to think they actually say "the collector edition contains the game", seriously what kind of a moron would think the contrary?

Well, it is released the 5th of june, amazon.co.uk told me it will arrive in my hands between 9 and 11 of june.

Ew, ignore that strategy guide. It has a crucial error in it that we make you miss part of the ending.

what are you talking about? crucial error? like what?

It is part of the price and collector edition you know, as i won't play in english on my first play, i probably won't use it anyway (yes, my game will be set to french and the guide is in english, so even if i may translate (i can do it, i know both languages, one is my "born language" so...), at least on my first time through the game.

i'll get it no matter what, use it or not is an option and if you explain why (without spoiling, of course, if you can), i'd be glad to follow your advice.

how can you miss part of the ending? (i don't know about the ending in so 4 but in so 3, it changed a bit depending of the characters you have in your team (yeah, in so 3, you encounter more playable characters than you have "characters'slot available".

There's one private action that they tell you to do in order to see a certain ending sequence, but they tell you the wrong one. You actually have to choose a different dialogue option to get that certain part of the ending.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft owns the trademark to IU and shares the copyright with Square-Enix. Which, more or less, means it should be a Microsoft IP.

UNLESS I AM WRONG, THEN OOPS.

ok. i would not use it for my first play anyway so thanks for the advice, i'll check that after beating the end boss (or final bonus boss if i have the time to do it. I receive the game sometime near 10 of june, i won't work before half august so i suppose i will have plenty of time to do that, not even counting that it will be the only game i will buy from june to, perhaps, december and that i have finished everything i own... can play it to 100% and even read the guide after that first play.

You have the regular ending but you also get additional scenes by doing private actions with all the characters and making the right choices. The guide gives you a wrong answer which will make you miss the ending.

ok. But you know, if the "wrong answer" is only wrong for an ending (meaning that if the answer would be yes or no and that both sound correct for the player to answer (meaning it would not be a question like "are you a bastard? yes/no but something players can find the answer via thinking of it to be good or bad, like "is that action right or wrong?, the answer chosen would differ from player to player), a player can still do the wrong choice without the guide.

Also, in star ocean 3, private action were easily missable, so if it is the same in so 4, it will not only depend of answers but also of missed/done private actions.

But regarding so 4, you know better than me is my statement and sentence is right or wrong, i suppose.

on a different topic, is the soundtrack of so4 available somewhere (even on internet, via download) ? Because the soundtrack of the collector edition is not only related to so 4 but to all star ocean games, so i suppose i will miss some of so 4 musics in the soundtrack of the collector edition.

I'm not gonna quote that huge text block, but the soundtrack is available...

No, the guide misleads you saying the wrong answer is correct on easily missed private actions.
