I would have to go with PGR4-god that game is probably the best looking racer i have ever seen....shift is a close second though.

^^ I guess there will always be someone that thinks the earth is flat and water is dry.

so i'm ignorent for having my own opinion??   Its pretty simple, from all the racers i have ever played PGR4 is the best looking.  And from what i've seen...there is currently no other racer out right now that looks better

PGR4 game engine seems to be dated after going thru some of the posts in the link...

implies that nothing beats GT5..
NFS shift is definitely the sole competitor...

Then you haven't played Gran Turismo 5 prologue, cause it beats them both (Shift a close second).

PGR4 is a lame 3rd

Jaggy edges of GT5 Selnor's screenshot disappeared suddenly in the link of my previous post

Guys, a question to you all....

What were you expecting when you entered this thread. You know Selnor has an Xbox 360 bias and if you've ever been in any of his graphical threads before you'l know how they go.

I remember one I was in he claimed that Gears 2 was better looking than Killzone 2 and that Far Cry 2 looked better than Uncharted. He'l put 360 exclusives and multiplats up, and PS3 exclusives down.

He could be the nicest guy in the world but be warned, this is how these comparisons go. Of course he suddenly gets back up from 360 fans which makes the argument last alot longer than it should.

So you're saying that when I think that Braid is the most beautiful game of last year I am stupid and refusing to see the world as it is?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just because you have a different opinion shouldn't mean I'm not allowed to have mine.

In my eyes, high resolution and fast refreshrate does not add to the beauty of a game. Neither does polygon count. You should try to realise that not everyone sees the world the way you do (and that it doesn't mean they are stupid).

OT: After watching the Gametrailers HD video-reviews of both Gran Turimso 5: Prologue and Project Gotham Racing 4 (just beacause I'm curious), I would like to say that both games look stellar. It's kinda hard to tell which is the better looking, because both has parts that detracts from the general pleasentness of its presentation. I would also say that looking at screenshots is most misleading.

thanks for the technical information,this clear all doubts

And, for good measure...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=10338263&postcount=4042

...same street corners for these two games

Also, notice the missing shadows in the highly lit areas on PGR4.

For those that missed this...

Let's get technical for a minute and also get the technical assessment from pros.

PGR4 = 1280x720p @30fps 2xAA, 6 cars, 100K average polys per car, no HDR lighting

GT5P = 1280x1080 @60fps, 2xAA, 16 cars, 200K average polys per car, HDR lighting, ray-traced garage area @1920x1080p

It's not even close.

"So the game runs at 1080p, 60 frames per second. That's something that, even on PS3, a lot of games haven't been able to accomplish. How much of a development concern was that when you were building it? How much time did it take to get the engine – which looks great running at that resolution – up to snuff?

First of all, Kazunori insists that a racing game runs at 60 frames per second. That's a must have from his point-of-view. And the characteristics of racing, or racing games, is that you're most of the time driving at high speeds. At high speeds, your view points are in the distance. You need detail, even for distant images, and 1080p was the only resolution that he could possibly think of. Both 60fps and 1080p were both must haves for the GT experience to be the GT experience. They've done some experiments on 720p to see if they could find a compromise but the minute they saw it, it was out the door."

wait are those gt5 or gt5p?

Is it an opinion to think the earth is flat?  Is it, also, an opinion to think water is dry?
