Forums - Gaming - Fun thread. Shift, PGR 4 or GT5. What has better graphics.

selnor, im with u man,all this PS3fanboys are just piss-off because all they get is a demo every 5 years, im not saying GT5P dosent look good all im saying is, is very hard to say both look awesome oh FYI PGR4 came one year before GT5P

Around the Network

PGR4: 30 frames per second, 1280x720 (it may be actually 1024x600 like PGR3) and 2xFSAA
GT5P: 60 frames per second, 1280x1080, 2xMSAA gameplay, 4xMSAA on replays, 1920x1080 and no AA on menus.
Forza 2: 1280x720, 60 frames per second (30 on replay due to additional screen effects)
Thus,
GT5P > Forza 2 > PGR4
In my opinion.

GT5, no competition.

The GT games always turn out to be among the best looking games of each generation

And why do you think that Shift doesn't compare to GT5?  The pictures I have seen, and the game in motion, make Shift appear the best looking game.  The thing about GT isn't the graphics, though it holds its own, it is the number of cars the game has and the dedication to modeling them correctly (minus crash damage).

You are so biased. Stop trying to make PGR4 look better than it is. Here's a random pick of what it looks like in Motion :

EWW

So far I've only seen bullshots from both PGR4 and GT5. Shift wins because they aren't bullshots, they straight from the PC version.

Let's get technical for a minute and also get the technical assessment from pros.

PGR4 = 1280x720p @30fps 2xAA, 6 cars, 100K average polys per car, no HDR lighting

GT5P = 1280x1080 @60fps, 2xAA, 16 cars, 200K average polys per car, HDR lighting, ray-traced garage area @1920x1080p

It's not even close.

"So the game runs at 1080p, 60 frames per second. That's something that, even on PS3, a lot of games haven't been able to accomplish. How much of a development concern was that when you were building it? How much time did it take to get the engine – which looks great running at that resolution – up to snuff?

First of all, Kazunori insists that a racing game runs at 60 frames per second. That's a must have from his point-of-view. And the characteristics of racing, or racing games, is that you're most of the time driving at high speeds. At high speeds, your view points are in the distance. You need detail, even for distant images, and 1080p was the only resolution that he could possibly think of. Both 60fps and 1080p were both must haves for the GT experience to be the GT experience. They've done some experiments on 720p to see if they could find a compromise but the minute they saw it, it was out the door."
