Forums - Nintendo - Capcom tells why no Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 on wii

This is a downloadable play, not a retail play. We don’t actually have any retail rights on this project. And there’s no way to get anywhere near the Wiiware filesize limit here. - Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development

We’ve opted to not negotiate those rights because the economics don’t make sense, nor does it dovetail with what we feel works in the digital-only space. - Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development"

There can be other ways. They could put the arcade version on VC. Sure it could be large, but with SD card support, it could work.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

That's more effort than what Capcom is willing to put out. They'd have to jump through hoops to make it happen. The entire point of this release is that they're trying to make as much money as possible with as little effort as possible.

So what? They don't make money on message board love, not do they lose money on message board hate.

To do that they would have to make a Dreamcast/Naomi emulator for the Wii. I'm not sure if that's even possible given the hardware limitations of the Wii. The Xbox 360 uses emulation to play old Xbox games which is why a lot of games are not compatible or have slow down issues.

Also if it was emulated it wouldn't be widescreen, have online play, etc. It would be best to just port it to the Wii for a lot of reasons.

Could MvC2 fit in the Wiis flash memory? After all it copies to the NAND when you play a VC/Wiiware game and I doubt it could.

I honestly wouldnt care if it was just a port. Never played or wanted this online. Played it at arcades with friends. I want it though I totally understand why its not coming. I dont blame Capcom still bullshit! >.

Where does it say Wii would just stick in the ROM and emulate it? I don't think Nintendo does that with N64 games on VC (or else they'd have occasional crashes, like the Zelda games on the GC), so adjusting the arcade version to run on the Wii software might be possible, assuming they do that.

BTW, another reason I have for supposing that is if VC files are the same as ROM files of games or not.

Makes perfect sense. Even with the arcade rom it's a pretty big game and the Wii internal storage isn't cutting it for that, and releasing games to retail is an expensive (read: risky) venture. Capcom is making the right choice. Of course, the fact that they didn't put SF4 on the Wii leads me to continue believing they are biased.
