Forums - Sony - Western push for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite - PSP bundle unveiled

http://play.tm/news/24375/western-push-for-capcom-s-monster-hunter/

Capcom are going all out with the release of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite in PAL territories, the publisher determined to make the series as big in the West as it is in Japan.

So important is the IP to the firm that they persuaded Sony Computer Entertainment Europe chief David Reeves to turn up and confirm that the new title will be part of a PSP bundle when it arrives on the continent come June 26th.

A demo of the new Monster Hunter for the PSP will also be distributed beforehand, on both UMD and in digital form. Apparently, the main focus of this will be to push the title's ad hoc wireless mode, which has gone down a storm in Japan (as Monster Hunter Portable 2G).

"Monster Hunter Freedom Unite will spearhead the PSP resurgence of 2009, we believe, and I would like to Capcom for their unwavering support in this endeavour." Reeves enthuses.

"One of the key demographics for PSP in Europe is the ten to 16 year old male - the ideal demographic for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite."

Reeves also thanked Capcom for their support of Sony. He will depart his role soon.

Kotaku are reporting the same news - http://kotaku.com/5231243/monster-hunter-freedom-unite-psp-bundle-demo-announced

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, already a tremendous success in Japan, will be getting a Playstation Portable bundle in the UK and a demo worldwide, Sony announced last week.

"Monster Hunter Freedom Unite sold 3 million units in Japan, showing what can happen when you bring a quality product to the Playstation Portable," David Reeves, president and chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe, said. "We feel we can attract this sort of audience elsewhere with this game if we can get them to play it ad-hoc."

So Sony plans to bring a demo of the title to both UMD and for digital distribution sometime before the game hits North America on June 23, he said. He added that Sony will also be releasing a "Monster Hunter bundle" in Europe, but didn't detail what exactly that would entail or if it would be released elsewhere.

Capcom should give us something for the PSP besides MH

Wow. That's awesome!

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Surely he must be kidding. We've had over 10 new PSP games announced this month alone!

More hardware bundle details:

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite confirmed for June 26

Demo and exclusive PSP bundle confirmed.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite will be released in Europe on June 26, Capcom has confirmed.

A pre-release Monster Hunter Freedom Unite demo for the PSP will be released both as a UMD and as a digital download via PlayStation Network.

The demo will feature three quests in which you can choose to play alone with the aid of your feline companion or in a team of up to four players.

A Monster Hunter Freedom Unite PSP bundle will also be released in Europe. The exclusive PSP hardware bundle will contain a specially designed Monster Hunter branded PSP skin and pouch along with a copy of the game, due out June 26.

Making the announcement at Captivate 09 in Monte Carlo last week, Capcom's showcase event, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's outgoing boss David Reeves said Monster Hunter Freedom Unite "will spearhead the PSP resurgence of 2009", and thanked Capcom for "their unwavering support in this endeavour".

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is the Western version of Monster Hunter Portable 2G, a game that has sold over three million units in Japan.

Reeves added: "It is the success experienced in Japan that we believe we can tap into in Europe. One of the key demographics for PSP in Europe is the 10 to 16 year old male, the ideal demographic for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. By combining the skills and know-how that Capcom and PlayStation possess, we feel we can excite this audience with this fantastic game. We firmly believe that if we can get people actually playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite together in ad hoc mode, which not many Europeans do, but Japanese do all the time, even if it's only for a few minutes, we can createenough intrigue and excitement for them to want to experience more."

I don't think he was kidding, he repeated this a couple of times during the Capcom (Captivate 09) event.
