Forums - Sony - Does Sony overuse their franchises?

Could we say Fire Emblem is going that way as well?

7 titles in the last 10 years.

This is fun.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Use power for the right things. At least for the things that you believe in.

if we are including handheld, then Resistance, Motorstorm, SOCOM, Ratchet & Clank and LBP all have extra games or will have extra game... maybe we can expect an Uncharted game on PSP in the near future...

Resistance -> 3 games in 2.5 years

Motorstorm -> 2 games in less than 2 years (going to be 3 in less than 3 years)

SOCOM -> 8 games in 6.5 years

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I don’t get why they have done that many games of it. I have never played any of them and I don’t see it as being a popular game…

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I still don't think it's any better or any worse than MS or Nintendo.

Pixel Art can be fun.

halo wars....really all i have to say. until i see a god of war RPG or a resistance platformer i rest my case

yes mainly buzz, new ps3 IPs and singstar games - there's like 40 ps2 singstar games and by the end of 2009 ps3 will have 6 singstar games(i don't even know how many buzz games were already released. same was with eye toy on ps2. sony would make a good thing by releasing their games from certain franchises every 3 years and not almost every year - make it as a big DLC partly free. people would appreciate that more then making 5 games from the sam series for 1 platform.

to people saying that nintendo is overusing their own franchises: i would like to hear how?
we are usually getting 1 game from few classic nintendo IP per platform/generation so it's like every 4-5 years - it's hard to call it overuse.

I believe so, yes.

What a compelling argument. *rolls eyes*

@ the person who complained about Singstar's releases - they are expansion packs & many are country-specfic. Jeez.

Nop...for me it is not overused considering I can't wait to get them!

Well alot of people mention Nintendo. In my opinion nintendo actually does the opposite to an extreme. A franchise game like Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metriod, or even Smash Brothers, are rarely release (about once a generation).

BUT they over expose their characthers by placing them into other games like Mario Party or Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. Pretty much any nintendo character can be whored out anywhere at any time and very cheaply.

This isnt what I'm talking about in this thread. What sony does is make a franchise game almost once a year... Imagine nintendo making Smash Brothers every year. Imagine if we had as many Mario Galaxy games since 2006 as we did Resistance games. That would be a problem.

Oh so you are complaining about how Sony works hard at making complete games which are sequels of an existing franchise.

They also happen to be of a very high quality and give the user base a bigger collection to choose from.

According to you it would be better if Sony started making generic party shovelware with the franchise characters used over and over again.

I can imagine "Naughty Dog Kung Fu" with Nathan Drake and Jak and Dexter fighting each other.

or maybe they should be like MS and have all games set in either the Halo or the Gears universe. And then have saturation publicity from highway billboards to comic book covers blaring out the name of the franchise.

Everybody is overusing their established franchises, I am just happy the way Sony is doing it by actually making good solid stand alone games.
