Forums - Sony - Does Sony overuse their franchises?

So I hear everyone clamoring over God of War 3 coming out this year. Thats cool I guess...except its the 4th freaking GoW game in 5 years. But it seems sony likes to spam their successful franchises.

Ratchet and Clanks come out every year, sometimes twice

Patapon 2 is coming out...and Patapon is hardly a year old.

Jak and Daxter, Resistance, Wipeout, Motostorm, etc

They must have sequelitis or something.

Do you feel their franchises are overused? -DISCUSS-

In contrast to what Nintendo does with Mario?  By the way, how long has it been since Jak and Daxter had a new release?

There is actually a long time between each main Mario game. But as someone pointed out earlier, it would be a different topic if you are talking about branching out the characters.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

@DingoEgret

There has only been one Mario Party on both DS and Wii.

Pixel Art can be fun.

as opposed to Microsoft who are milking halo for every penny (halo wars) nintendo (mario tennis)

sony is just lucky to have developers who make great games consistently and if its not broke...why fix it.

Also felt the urge to mention Square Enix.....Dirge of Cerberus anyone? FF X-2?? remaking every damn FF game?

They could at least stop releasing every second month a new Singstar game on the PS3

but those aren't "new games" - it's only a new "starter pack" for the singstore, as most of the songs on the new disc release on the singstore aswell (apart from ABBA, because the record label has insisted on the songs being exclusive to disc-based offerings for a year)

Sony uses their franchises less than Nintendo, and MS. God of War Wars - please Sony.

I don't think Singstar can really count as before the invention of the Singstore getting a new disk was the only way of getting new songs to sing, and face it, how long can you sing the same songs over and over again before you want new ones to sing?

They could at least stop releasing every second month a new Singstar game on the PS3

Yes, because the Dutch would just love to sing along to American Rock and Americas would absolutely kill for some Dutch songs to sing. -_-

You have different music genres and many country specific titles on that list.

Stuff like that doesn't really count.

@SmokedHostage

the op did not specified the generation,so nintendo is the company who most overused his franchises

Use power for the right things. At least for the things that you believe in.

LOL NO.

How many Mario games and spinoffs have there been?

how many mario party games are?

is it not the same franchise?

nintendo overuse their franchise this is fact

ok, we can all agree that Mario Party is overused. But here's the deal; Ratchet and Clank has almost as many sequels as Mario Pary and in less time.

Ratchet and Clank will have 9 games since 2002.

Mario Party has 10 (11 if you count the ereader) games since 1998.

OP takes the opportunity to say GoW has 4 games in 5 years and R&C release every year or so.

So with Mario Party you have 8 console titles in 10 years, along with a GBA version, a DS version and an E-Reader version. So that gives you 11.
