They are definitely overusing the Singstar franchise.

I don't think Singstar can really count as before the invention of the Singstore getting a new disk was the only way of getting new songs to sing, and face it, how long can you sing the same songs over and over again before you want new ones to sing?

Well alot of people mention Nintendo. In my opinion nintendo actually does the opposite to an extreme. A franchise game like Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metriod, or even Smash Brothers, are rarely release (about once a generation).

BUT they over expose their characthers by placing them into other games like Mario Party or Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. Pretty much any nintendo character can be whored out anywhere at any time and very cheaply.

This isnt what I'm talking about in this thread. What sony does is make a franchise game almost once a year... Imagine nintendo making Smash Brothers every year. Imagine if we had as many Mario Galaxy games since 2006 as we did Resistance games. That would be a problem.

the OP said franchises.... not branches of a franchise.....

They could at least stop releasing every second month a new Singstar game on the PS3

Take a look at my photos on flickr

It is only natural to reuse what is successful. Sure we get two big Zelda games almost every gen. But only one Mario platformer about every 5 years and about the same for MK. Hmm but that is not counting what’s on the handheld… lol

The answer is yes they do just as Nintendo and MS does.

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Me looks at Call of Duty and Battlefield.

No Sony doesn't oversue their franchises :D

Of course, like so many others have pointed out; like MS and Ninty do.

So I hear everyone clamoring over God of War 3 coming out this year. Thats cool I guess...except its the 4th freaking GoW game in 5 years. But it seems sony likes to spam their successful franchises.

Ratchet and Clanks come out every year, sometimes twice

Patapon 2 is coming out...and Patapon is hardly a year old.

Jak and Daxter, Resistance, Wipeout, Motostorm, etc

They must have sequelitis or something.

Do you feel their franchises are overused? -DISCUSS-

In contrast to what Nintendo does with Mario?  By the way, how long has it been since Jak and Daxter had a new release?

Why are so many posters mixing up characters with franchises? I believe the OP is referring solely to franchise games (i.e. Super Mario Galaxy is part of the Mario platforms franchise, Mario Kart Wii is another franchise, etc).

I think the Nintendo approach is better. It's much more exciting to play a game with significant upgrades every 3-5 years than the same game with minor upgrades every year or two. It can also kill software sales with people getting tired of spending money on very similar games.

Sony's development studios are too big for the PS3 anyway, perhaps they should shift a bit more to the Nintendo way of managing their franchises.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

Sony usually updates the popular franchise every two years

Resistance -> Resistance 2
MotorStorm -> Motorstorm 2
Uncharted -> Uncharted 2
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction -> Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time

According to this pattern, we can expect to see LBP2 and the next SOCOM game in 2010.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

how many mario party games are?

is it not the same franchise?

nintendo overuse their franchise this is fact
