Forums - Sony - Should I get Valkyria Chronicles (and Heavenly Sword)?

There is money burning in my hands. And I've been thinking about getting these two and can get them both cheap beacause of the weak Pound.

I don't have much experience with either's genre. I love playing RTS/TBS games on my pc and have loved Pokemon and Oblivion as RPGs, but that's about it. Will I enjoy Valkyria Chronicles?

In the case of Heavenly Sword I have only recentley played Devil May Cry 4 and I own GOW2 but haven't played past the first level yet. Also while Metacritic has it at 79, ING gave it a depressing score of 70.

By getting these two I would also own (or have borrowed) every good ps3 exclusive from LittleBigPlanet to Quest for Booty. And the circle would be complete :p

YES and YES (if you can get it in platinum/the best prices)

If you ever played something like X-com enemy uknown. terror from the deep or jagged aliance you will enjoy Valkiria.

HS is imho more interesting than GoW I but very short.

No and No, because if you havent decided by the huge number of threads praising the games then how is one more going to do it?

I loved Heavenly Sword, one of my favorites this gen but it is very short. I completed it in like 6 hours and I tend to take a while in games.

*89 hours for Tales of Vesperia*
*40% through Too Human. Sitting at 9 hours*

Valkyria Chronicles is another great game and a gem this generation. Lasts pretty long, over 25 hours easy.

It all comes down to preference really. Did you at least try the VC demo? If so, could you see yourself enjoying that style of combat?

I wouldn't just jump and grab both at once if you are unsure whether or not you will truly enjoy them. How about this?

Go to your local rental store and grab Heavenly Sword and try it out for like an hour or two.

Go back and be like "I'm sorry, I grabbed the wrong game"

Grab Valkyria Chronicles and check it out.

If you like both, buy them.

Don't heed to the scores of Heavenly Sword. One of the first games on the PS3, and nearly all professional reviewers suffered from "the PS3 is expensive so the games are not good enough" syndrome. It's an excellent game. :)

As much as I enjoyed Heavenly Sword, it was pretty short, but I'm pretty sure the price is down and well worth it now!

Must you play everything on easy?

Well, that or you are very profficeint with hack and slash games. I mean, the final battle took me 3 hours easy. Went from "this is freakin impossible!" to "missed me again, now take this you bastard!" in the process. Was very rewarding.

You should buy both games, in my opinion. If you can only get one, make it Valkyria, but they are both quality games. It is one of the greatest RPG's this gen and it's artsyle and story and personality is amazing. You will not be disappointed, and that's a guarantee. I've seen maybe one negative impression of Valkyria ever on this site, and that's unheard of on sites like this. Do yourself a favor, and support Sega's GOOD games. As for Heavenly Sword, the way it's story is told is very high caliber. The graphics are still good, the last cinematic still has me in awe. It's been called very similar to God of War, but the game is done well, so it's not a bad thing.

I don't play any of my games on easy. I don't know what it was but I just breezed right through that game. Give me a game like Ninja Gaiden however and I will throw my controller.

If I played games on easy I wouldn't die 14 times on chapter 2 in Too Human or take 89 hours to beat Tales of Vesperia.

Ah, non-gravity, try the demo of Valkyria. It's short, one does not have much to work with, yet there are several strategies to try. Everyone says the final game is much more engaging that the demo, yet the demo felt pretty engaging to me, from a TBS point of view. Since you;re a fan of TBS, I think you would enjoy it.

Where would you get Valkyria Chronicles from? I want to get it also, soon, and in the meantime am searching for the best price online. (For example, it;s cheaper at sendit.com that ant play.com).
