Ok, so Obama's budget will probably pass. I am going to guess around 3.5 trillion.

That's 1.75 trillion more then the government will bring it. Or, $5,800 per american citizen.

Where do you think this money will come from, and how do you think we can pay for these kinds of services in the long run?

I feel those numbers are misleading. It cant be that the budget spending is twice the amount that comes in. Usually a budget deficit is only 3-4% for a Western governent, perhaps 5-10% in a Crysis.

Can someone xplain the budget numbers?

Like I said, fiction writers couldn't make this up, because if they did, no one would believe it. Yet these numbers are very real. Why isn't everyone screaming about this all over the media? It's utterly crazy.

Worst off, it fucks the young more then the old, and this sight is mostly young. Why are they not up in arms. I don't get it.

I'm shocked. Watching the news over here in Sweden I've understood the budget is something special, but I couldnt imagine it being anywhere near that crazy. Bush was already a big spender (with record deficits due to the war right), I thought Obama would be more careful.

shoot we're getting that money from other countries. *gets a soldier helmet*
pikmin we're going to war!

Yea, Bush spent like crazy, and not just on the war. he was the least fiscally responsible president we ever had, but his average deficit was 400 billion a year. Obama's will average over a trillion if he gets his way.

Oh and the actual answer to the question is that future generations will pay for it.

The question (which we will never ever know the answer to) is would future generations be better off paying off this debt or without this debt but without the effects of the stimulus bill?

Its too easy to say that its a bad thing to have this big a deficit when its also bad not to try and combat a recession.

Obama is merely trying to pick the lesser of two weevils.

@ Mrstickball - Sorry about the lateness of my reply, I just read your post. I'm not to sure what the tax rate is for the top 1% of the US is, but it seems to me a lot of countries have been increasing the amount the upper band of earners pay. There must be a reason. I would imagine with the rich poor divide in USA it would work to a greater extent.

I'm not sure though, I'm not that economically savvy.

The US has a more progressive tax system then the UK.

The higher bracket is lower in the US.  But so are all tax brackets.

Feel sorry for us Brits, we have a £200,000,000,000 hole to fill withing the banking/insurance sectors and no money to fill it with... Basically we're f***ed no matter what we do.

We are 10X the size, with 10X the deficit, so we are in the same boat.

Sucks doesn't it?

Yeah, it sucks big time. Brtiain will be lucky if it doesn't end up like Iceland. America should be able to last hopefully, but yeah as you said we are  in the same boat.

And people on the boards made fun of me when I said that was a realistic option.  "I've seen nothing about it in the media or read nothing in the papers!" they said.

Still even as the one who say this comming i wouldn't say you were screwed.  You SHOULD still pull out... it's just like being on a tightrope.

The people we should be really sorry for is the Japanese.

They had just got themselves out of the decade from hell and now they've dropped back to being even worse than before.
