The Konami Code? I had no idea Contra was synonymous with Konami. :P

EDIT: Alright, who the **** found this out in the first place? Did the people who make this "glitch" leak it out? It would make sense considering that no one in their right mind, or even in an insane mind, would try that.

It became the Konami code when Konami started using it in more games than just Contra. Actually it was first used in Gradius anyways. Contra is what popularized the code. Most Konami games utilize the code in some way.

Interesting.. I never knew that before.

If ESPN was behind this themselves, they probably helped leak it. If the site was somehow hacked, then I'm sure the hackers leaked it. Whoever did this obviously would want it to spread. I like your theory more though, because I would applaud that type of desperation out of a Konami code fanatic. Reminds me of the hatch/lottery/input numbers on Lost.
