Forums - Sony - Who here thinks ps3 is Sonys' last videogame console?

There isn't going to be a PS4 for at least another 5-8 years... you'll probably see a PS3.5 since the PS3 is more than capable right now.

The PS4 will come before the 10 year plan is up. Sony just like making the most profit they can off of their systems.

I beg to differ... if you look at recent trends with the handheld... DS->DSL->DSi and PSP-1000>2000>3000, console might well take the route as well...

Not to mention, the PS3 is more than capable of doing what it's doing... a redesigned PS3 with a little bit more power with a brand name PS4 is not going to be a suprise...

It might be called the PS4, but most likely it's just an upgrade of PS3, instead of a total revamp like the PS3 from PS2.

@Jeronimo. If they had kept the first xbox on sale for another 3 yrs it would have reached 35m? lol Not a chance.

You need to get your head out of the "How to troll PS" bag.

since when have opinions become trolling??

You really think the OP was expecting people to not get riled up over this? Did he really think that the question was realistic, and would start a meaningful discussion, rather than a flame war? This website is one the less fanboyish sites, and threads like these, especially when they're on the front page tarnish VG Chartz and its community.

From Wikipedia:

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

Well by that standard the majority of threads on vgchartz are troll threads >_>

But he obviously believes what he's saying. I don't agree with him nor do most other people but he's still entitled to his own opinion...no matter how controversial it is.

Well when i posted threads which were made by some1 else....n if ms fanboys disagreed with it they would always say that im trolling!!!recently i posted a thread abt the most overrated characters by ign and an ms fanboy said i was trolling coz there were master chief and fenix in that list!

Thats neither here nor there....The point is he's entitled to his own opinion and so were you on that, you can argue with someone you disagree with but don't be callin them a troll just because you don't agree with them.

I admit i've called people that i disagree with trolls, and i realize how wrong that is, after all no one is perfect.

But if you call people trolls for having a different opinion then your an advocat of taking away free speech.  And thats not right.

You stand alone here .Why stick up for him? he's trolling end of, yes he's entitled to his opinion but it's so frustratingly retarded ,everyone knows he said it to troll/start a shit storm. and he has very well succeded and your not helping by sticking up for him

Ummm think about it i'm not the problem here.  I'm simply stating that he obviously believes what he says and you can't call him a troll.  I did not say that i agree with this thread or that i agree about the way he's going about it...Even if  he is trolling, he's not even close to the worst troll i've ever seen on this site.  But the bottom line is why call him a troll for having an opinion??  are you against free speech??

lol xbox fanboys want to see sony die so it turns into a developer like sega?

that won't happen sorry.

The OP did this for the VG$!!

For those who are saying that Sony is losing money on this, didn't MS lose a considerable amount of money to penetrate into the console market? Why is Sony investing for the long term if they just want to step out of the gaming industry after this gen?

Microsoft never did this for profit. Their goal is to stop the Playstation brand from disrupting computers. Sony's vision of videogames is different then Nintendo's and Sega's. They were/are trying to create multimedia computers, or something to that extent. They aren't making game system the way Nintendo is. Basically, the Playstation brand was intergrating their multimedia elements into a gaming console. It was poised to disrupt computers which Microsoft could not allow. However, Sony's goal was always about profit; Microsoft's wasn't. This is why there is so much red ink on the 360.

This means two things. First, Microsoft could easily knock the last leg out from under the brand. Microsoft can force a new console right when the PS3 is about to make money. This would cause more R&D red ink, and with Nintendo disrupting both of them, neither will turn a profit. Of course, when this happens, Microsoft will leave the industry. Which is my second point: once the Playstation brand end (and it probably will), Nintendo will be the last company producing a game console. of this, this also means the end of the hardcore era. Nintendo has been trying to get away from what is hardcore gaming. With Sony and Microsoft gone, Nintendo will not focus on hardcore gaming.

As far as Sony investing long term, they were planning on being #1 again. This time, they are number 3 of 3; although, it is really all about the money. They will drop the investments if the overall system is failing. Why try to save you million dollar yahte if it's going to sink anyway. Becuase of this, Sony MIGHT try a 4th console, but that's only is they can turn some king of profit very soon to try and justify it to investors.Overall, the Playstation brand is on it's last legs.

Exactly! Finally someone who speaks the truth. Neither Sony or Microsoft are really in this for the games, but Sony is in gaming strictly to control multimedia each gen. The use the videogame industry to push the sales of the formats they back each gen.

Makes sesne problem is going by that train of though Sony would have shut down half their division already.  They are a old ass corp, nothing last #1 they know it but they have never abbandoned their core businesses.

PS/SCE is their core business now.

Movies
Electronics
SCE
Music

Will always be a part of Sony, none is going any where.
