You just probably forgot about the timings, since the fight is pretty much the same. That happened to me from NG to NG+, I forgot a lot of timings for bosses and some enemies >_

Ok, lestatdark told me to post here and I will. I just got Demons Souls, so here it comes:

I started the game with a royal. At first, I used soul arrow and it was really easy. Used the rapier on one enemy just to try it and I thought it was horrible.

Went to he boss. Huge guy with huge cleaver. I do ok, but half way through it, I do one wrong roll and bam! he kills me.

I appear on Nexus. Nothing is explained properly (my only complaint with the game).

Then I go to Boletarian Palace. I do ok. Make one mistake and fall to my death.

Bye Bye 1180 souls.

Im afraid to play again, lol. I lost everything. Damn.

But the game is awesome and I want to play it a lot more.

Is there a way for me to store souls that I earned without spending them? That way I can farm, go back to Nexus, store them and go back. Thanks.

Hehehehe, you just had your first souls lost to a mistake, don't worry, it happens to us all, I lost 400K souls because of that :)

There's no way to store souls once you have them, that's one of the trickiest things of the game. Should you farm or spend them? It depends on what you want to do with them, the game forces you to choose, to learn how to better prepare yourself for what lies ahead.

Nice starting out with the Royal, but don't get used to using the Soul Arrow exclusively, since you'll do much better learning how to properly use the Sword/Shield combo ;)

Always be with your shield up when you're facing an enemy, even if you're confident that you can outrun their attacks. It's your first time in the game, and you don't know the proper timmings for counter-attacks and the timming of enemy attacks, so you'll increase your chances of survival with your shield up all the time.

Also, talking about that first boss, Phalanx. The trick to him is to use an item that you'll get in the level, Turpentine. That item adds fire to your Right Hand Weapon, and believe me, you'll need it to defeat Phalanx, as you'll do 2x the Damage. Try to take on the smaller Phalanxes first, once you defeat over 5 of them, there will be a gap on the side of Phalanx that you'll be able to explore and do maximum damage to him.

Current PC Build

CPU - i7 8700K 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz turbo) 6 cores OC'd to 5.2 GHz with Watercooling (Hydro Series H110i) | MB - Gigabyte Z370 HD3P ATX | Gigabyte GTX 1080ti Gaming OC BLACK 11G (1657 MHz Boost Core / 11010 MHz Memory) | RAM - Corsair DIMM 32GB DDR4, 2400 MHz | PSU - Corsair CX650M (80+ Bronze) 650W | Audio - Asus Essence STX II 7.1 | Monitor - Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD, Freesync, 1 ms, 60 Hz, 28"

I think he's talking about the boss that is "supposed" to kill you at the end of the tutorial (hence the huge cleaver). So don't feel bad that he killed you - its made that way so that you get sent to the nexus.

I just moved on to NG+++, but, um, why didn't someone tell me that character tendency carries over? I'll never get to pure white character tendency because I'm starting from pure black, and there's not enough events to change it all the way back to pure white. GRRRRRRR. So now i'll have to play it a FIFTH time to get my final ring.....

Thanks.

I love Soul Arrow cause it kills most enemies in one shot. Also, I hate the rapier. I got a Bastard Sword but I dont have enough strengh to use it properly.

Can I still use it or I will do smaller damage?

Another thing, I went up some stairs and there were 2 ways to go.

Going to the back got me to a small bridge with one enemy that only took 10% of damage from what I usually did with Soul Arrow. So I ran from him.

Im supposed to avoid him and go forward in the level, right?

And it sucks that I cant store it. I want to get another weapon, so I dont want to spend points upgrading the rapier. Man, I really didnt like the rapier.

@epicurean - I didnt know you "had" to die there. But good to know.

Yeah, avoid that "red eye night" that you only did 10% damage on. You have to be quite a bit leveled up to fight him.

It is possible to beat that boss at the beginning, but it's very, very difficult. I've never even come close.

@epicurean

You can get PB CT again easily, just beat BP human players, you'll get back 40% White Tendency back with each one.

@Marciosmg

Sorry about confusing the bosses >_
Also, you can store the Bastard Sword and you won't be able to use it properly until you get 18 strength on your character. What will happen when you use it is that you'll do less damage and each swing will tire your character, leaving you open to enemy attacks.

I think you'll be better off with Long Swords and Rapiers rather than the Bastard Sword, unless you learn how to properly switch between two handed and one handed fast enough to attack 2-handed and then block right back with 1-handed and shield (Triangle button). That trick will do you tons of good in later levels and in NG+.

Yeah but i SUCK at PvP. I probably don't have enough Stone of Eph... Eyes to win 3 matches! Really, I'm terrible!

If I were to try that, though, is there a certain level where I'm likely to get invaded?

Sorry about confusing the bosses >_< I thought you had talked about Phalanx and not Vanguard. Yeah, you're supposed to die on him, even though I managed to beat him with a Royal, just for kicks.

Also, you can store the Bastard Sword and you won't be able to use it properly until you get 18 strength on your character. What will happen when you use it is that you'll do less damage and each swing will tire your character, leaving you open to enemy attacks.

Thanks. I bought a short sword and then I found a scimitar. I like them and I can use them (I tried the bastard sword and it did 1 or 2 damage only lol).

I got my souls back. I was near the place I fell and I found a bloodstain. Then, I got all my souls back, I thought that only happened when you got your soul back (Im still in soul form).

That guy I was talking about isnt the red eye knight you guys mean. I have faced the same enemy a few more times in the level. He is an enemy with grey armor, big shield and spear. Once I hit him when he isnt defending, he dies pretty easily.

I got a bit further in the level. I got the cling ring, the thief ring and the herculean strengh ring too. Too bad I can only equip 2 at a time. So I use the MP regen one and the cling ring.

I got to the vendor and bought better armor for myself. However now I am near the 50% equip burden, though I still am agile. Couldnt buy more cause I would have passed it.

I cntinued playing and an enemy out of the blue threw a fire bomb at me as I turned a corner and it blew up some containers killing me instantly.

I tried to turn off the PS3 as quickly as I could, so maybe I will still be before that.

I cant wait to play more. This game is amazing.

Ah, the firebomb guy, I know exactly where that was at. The nice thing is, you learn to be careful there next time.

You stay in soul form unless you defeat a boss or use a stone of ephemeral eyes.

The rapier is pretty weak on most enemies, I ended up using a falcoin for most of my first playthrough, but whatever you feel comfortable with is good. Continued good luck to you...
