Forums - Sony - I am a European thinking of buying an American PS3...

I have been thinking of getting a PS3 for a very, very long time so I can play Valkyria Chronicles and Metal Gear Solid 4.

The only thing really stoping me is the evil price tag. I don't have the money (I'm poor )

But as of late people in Sweden seems to have gone mad and are selling PS3's for disturbing low prices.

My target for now is an American 60GB (I can finally play my copy of Valkyrie Profile 1 ) and includes MGS 4 and.....

Advent Children + Final Fantasy XIII bundle!!!! (OMG!!!)

Really, it's über awsome!

The only thing bothering me is: Will I be able to use online services, play games online, use Playstation Store etc.. with an American console in Europe?

a 60 gig will probably be used, and there have been some known problems with the original. Do not get an American ps3.

Buy the cheapest one you can find in your own country because you are likely to spend quite a bit on shipping as well.
If you want to play valkyrie profile (amazing game) buy the 99$ ps2 (or a used slim one, maybe 79$) and a used or new 40GB ps3.

I wouldn't advice you, since you don't have single warranty with an import console. PS3 is not entirely damage proof, my 40GB its blu ray drive died on me within 8 months of using. I'd advice you to buy the console just here in Europe. Just get an US PS2 from www.videogamesplus.ca. Not expensive and no taxes

Yes, it is used, but it is located in Sweden so the shipping cost is no problem.

Where there huge problems with the original models?

I know, buying an 40GB and an American PS2 where the way to go before but the PS3 previously mentioned (including FF & MGS) has a current bid of about 429$ shipping incl. and will probably go for about 500-520$ (A 40GB PS3 costs about 499$ new, a bit lower used, with nothing but a controller incl.) It's the low price that caught my interest in this.

Hmm, why not an American PS2 instead?

I agree with Kyliedog.

Ps3 costs 500$ where you live?!?

Try imports located in some other countries first. There were some problems with the original 60 gbs. I wouldn't want it to hurt your experience.

Plus, like another poster said, you will not be getting any kind of a guarantee on your purchase. Also, you said the system came with FF? The movie?

Trust me, pay the extra and protect your investment.

also, check amazon prices, they tend to be a bit cheaper.

Secondly, dell.com is selling ps3 for 299$. If you have a friend in the states, that would be the best deal for you.

Hmm, seems that should give up on this idea then...would be so uncool to end up with a broken PS3 and no warranty.

A last question though, how long is the warranty for PS3? I only ask this because there are people selling 60GB with reciept included. Then again standing there with a broken machine and a warranty that is too old would be stupid.

PS3 warranty is 1 year.
