I can agree that that Vaan and Tidus are a bit wussis. But calling Cloud and Squall emos, sir you have gone to far. FF8 may have sucked but Squall must be the coolest character of them all. I still believe that the reason you hate the newer FF games is your bias against Sony and it does dont matter if you like FFIX^^.

So, I bought a PSone, PS2, and PSP because I hate Sony? I must hate Nintendo, Sega, Atari, and Microsoft too because I own their consoles as well...

The reason I dislike Final Fantasy VII, VIII, X, and XII is because they are not the same style of game that FFI-VI and IX are. There are a lot of people who have been playing Final Fantasy since long before FFVII was released you know. The old Final Fantasy games were Fantasy RPGs. They had a very specific style, and rather than continue with that style FFVII rewrote it entirely. That annoyed me. Final Fantasy IX returned to that old school style, and that's why I like it. X and XII though tossed it out again...

I'm sorry that people have different opinions than you, but it has nothing to do with the console, it has to do with the style of the games. There are a lot of former FF fans who agree with me about the change made by FFVII being bad. Just as there are a bunch of Metroid fans who dislike Metroid Prime. You are never going to get everyone in the world to agree with you...

Just because I own Nintendo consoles does not mean that I man not biased against Nintendo. It would have been different if this was your first post but many of your posts I have seen has been anti Sony. So sorry if I dont believe you but I dont think that this is going to bother you.

I like facts. That's my favorite thing, and that's why I'm on a game sales site. I reinforce facts, and I debate facts. I'm a numbers guy. Right now, numbers favor Nintendo. Do I like Nintendo better than Sony? Yes. Does that have anything to do with Square Enix games? No. They are a 3rd party. They have nothing to do with Sony. I certainly have nothing against Sony consoles or Sony games. One of my favorite RPGs last generation was Dark Cloud 2 which is Sony first party. So is Ratchet and Clank, and I have loved every game in that series except the PSP one, which was okay, but not great.

So, I guess I'm saying yes I have a Nintendo preference (bias if you prefer), but I do not hate Sony, and me prefering Nintendo has nothing to do with a 3rd party game series like Final Fantasy. However, you can believe what you want. My reasons for my opinions about the Final Fantasy series are of course my own, and I don't expect everyone else in the world to share them.

I understand what you are saying and maybe I should have chosen better word then anti-Sony. You are more pro Nintendo but dont worry because no one is really neutral specially me. I just got tired of that argument about FF heard it from too many Nintendo fans. Maybe I am FF fanboy?

^This makes me wonder... am I the only one on this site that haven't play any of the original FF games? (only thing I've played with the name FF is FF:Tactic Advance)

Haha no I'm sure you aren't the only one. If you ever want to play FF games, I recommend you start with FFVI.

I agree with naznatips; FFVI is the second best FF IMO. Which makes me wonde, naznatips, you really didn't like FFVII? I agree FFI-VI style was my preference as well but FFVII really pulled me in it's fantastic world, amazing battles, etc. What was it in particular you didn't like about FFVII?

Is FF VII going to change sony?

For me it's... lack of depth and story compared to 4-6, lame attempt at steam punk with swords that just fell apart, graphics worse then final fantasy 1 for the NES just for the sake of it being 3-D.  Characters being more stereotypes then anything else, overly emo main character and a battle system that's worse then the ones before it.  Tifa... who seems to have no redeeming value other then people find her "hot".   Baret just being a sterotype so people can say "Hey a black guy with a gun arm!!1! Coo!  I'm surprised he didn't start every sentence with "I pity the fool".

The songs instead of being new just mostly sounded like remixes from older Final Fantasys as well if i remember right.

If you mean their market share, I hope so. Competition is good; I really hope PS3 and XBox360 HW sales up and Wii attracts better games, mostly third party ones. That would be one hell of a party...

I guess this one is funny too

Oh yeah, and if you sat down and played Final Fantasy 7, the only way you would know it was a Final Fantasy game is that it says "Final Fantasy" in the title.

1-6 had a number of repeating and underlying themes that made them all part of a franchise despite the fact that they happened in different worlds.

Final Fantasy 7 was basically called a Final Fantasy game to cash in on the name. In game content it has as much to do with the original final fantasy games as Dragon Quest or Blue Dragon.

It would be like getting NBA 2k9 and popping it in, and find that instead of NBA teams they are all teams from different planets in the solar system playing basketball tournaments on asteroids to decide the fate of the universe.

It might be a fun game and all... but it has nothing to do with the NBA.

Well, I really shouldn't say don't like. I don't dislike the other FF games, they just don't feel as special to me. They are all okay/good games (except FFXII...), but they don't use the style that charmed me into FF in the first place. My personal complaints about FFVII are:

1) The change in style from fantasy to sci-fi. Environments became much less colorful and much more dreary and dark. The graphics in the game were pretty bad too. I know FFVII's 3D sprites were revolutionary... but you have to admit the 2D ones from FFVI looked a lot better than the Legos you played through FFVII as. I shouldn't have to be watching a cutscene to see any emotion from the characters I'm using.

2) The personalities of the characters. I have never been a fan of the dark gothic "cool" character attitude. I mean look at Cloud who spent most of the game chronically depressed, then look at Zidane or Terra with really bright and colorful personalities.

3) Then you have Sephiroth... I had just finished playing FFVI when I played FFVII for the first time. FFVI btw has my favorite villain of all time: Kefka. His crazy laugh and awesome quotes really just made me love him. After Kefka, Sephiroth felt empty as a villain (despite having badass theme music). Jenova was a better villain than him... I mean, his story was ridiculous. A few Jenova cells made him unbelievably strong, and stronger than Jenova herself... uh what? As a side note I'm actually of the opinion Jenova was stronger and she was controlling him the whole game until she was killed. Not to mention Sephiroth was perfectly sane before discovering he was genetically engineered, then he magically goes "okay, I'll be crazy now." Hopefully Crisis Core will explain that better...

4) FFVII was really badly translated. It was full of typoes and translation errors. It's plot was also pretty shabby, and often misinterpreted. Some people think Sephiroth was the primary villain of the game, but I'm of the opinion that Jenova was. Sephiroth spent the entire game in the Northern Crater (frozen most of the time). Jenova is certainly the one that killed Aeris (while disguised as Seph), and she is the one you chased throughout most of the game. I can link you to an entire page of evidence that shows Jenova is the primary villain if you want.

Those are my main issues. Again, it wasn't a bad game... it just didn't feel like the Final Fantasy that I had grown up with. VI, IX, and IV are my top favorites. I could talk about those 3 games for hours lol.
