Heres a thermaltake 430W with 4 eggs @ $28 after MIR with free shipping, there are a couple of cheaper Coolmax ones but im not sure how good they are.

I think that's the PSU I'm using in my stock clock Q6600/9600GT system. While it's better than the generic PSU HP used, it's also a bit noisier. But then the system is only running a 92mm CPU fan and a single 80mm case fan along with the GPU cooler.

It was cheap; that's about all I have to say about it.

First rule of building computers:

Don't buy shitty ultra cheap no-brand PSUs

Unless you don't mind losing several hundreds bucks on destroyed hardware when psu breaks.

Also, if you're buying an HD4830, you should wait until the 28th of April (i.e. 2 days). The HD4770 will be releasing then at $99 and provide 20% better performance and run 30W cooler.

Cheap as chips, without being crap quality. Its all you need for a cheap build I guess.

Tease.

I keep hearing good things about those Rosewill PSU's.

I think I'm going to grab that one. (The blue fan thingy looks cool too. :P)

We'll miss you George.

<- this is very nice for the price

With all do respect, I don't know if you checked the ones I lsted in the original post, but the Rosewill has more wattage, better reviews, and better specs than that one you posted.

Rosewill=mostly positive reviews, 2x12v rails, 550w and a cool blue fan.

The one you listed:none of the above.

Theres a new ATI card coming in your pricerange in the next week or two, its called the ATI HD 4770. Its a $99 card, but its just as powerful as the card you listed as your chosen card and its using the new 40nm process so it uses less power.

Tease.

Yeah, well, regardless I'll be ordering the parts as soon as the money is in the bank.

When it comes to PSU's I go to http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=108088 to see how good different brands really are. As the link will tell you, there's a new list on the way, but the old one is still pretty valid.

Rosewill(which I've read is actually newegg's brand and they actually sell rebranded stuff, but that may not be accurate since I didn't delve too deeply) is in the bottom tier, while the PSU Zlejedi linked is in the second tier(and it's brand is actually in the top tier for higher wattages).

2 12V Rails isn't necessarily better than a single rail either. It means you'll have to balance the leads so that all components will get the proper amperage. This probably won't be an issue in your build, but given a stable PSU a single rail is generally preferred.

550W at 72+% efficiency doesn't sound better at all compared to 420W at 82+% efficiency when you won't be needing anywhere near either at max load. Soleron had a good point with efficiency earlier, though he may have gotten it backwards. If your system is going to draw 300W from the PSU, than the Rosewill will be drawing ~415W from the wall while the PCP&C will only be drawing ~365W. That will add up and in the end you'll be saving more with the more efficient PSU.

In the end, I'm not saying you should get the PCP&C PSU, but I would certainly recommend a PSU that's 80+(efficiency) certified and 400W+.

^ U have to give the floor to that man.
