Opinion... how that word is suddenly brought up a lot when people are proved wrong.

Okay, if thats your "opinion" i suppose i cant argue with it.
But the point still stands, i know people who have had trouble with Safer and even Bizzaro Sephiroth. And he has a lot of depth in his character + backstory.

Good God, what else do you want me to say? This entire list is someone's freakin opinion.

edit: Lets get over this again:

Me: Seph is missing from list

You: Why should he be in the list?

Me: No character depth, easy to kill

You: No he is hard to kill and has lots of character

Bold = your opinion. (I like how I'm automatically wrong because disagree with you)

Uhh, do you not know what character depth is?  If you did, you would clearly see how much character depth Sephiroth has.  Fail

I disagree, I do not think he has much character depth, he feels very two dimensional to me. You are not arguing over a boolean, there is no true / false statement. This isn't even something that can be agreed upon due to general consensus, there a many people that can subjectively say that they agree/disagree with me; what part of this constitute a fail?

As far as FF villain goes, I thought Kefka was better, I thought Garland was better, I even thought Ultimecia was better because I at least can pretend she's Rinoa.

This shit happens every. single. time. Anyone ever bringes up  FF7 in an "Most overrated___ever" list, the fans immieatly rush to defend the text-book example of an oedipus complex.

Saying "your opinion" to someone who says "<insert character name here> has character depth" is fail.  He's the MAIN Villain, that makes him have more character depth than the rest of the cast of characters within the story.

It would be an opinion if he said something like "<insert character name here> has an AWESOME character depth"

No sir. Wrong.

You will take note that Wander is similarly silent but he is oneo f th best characters in the history of the medium. It's just a different method of characterization.

No, I am not comparing Gordon Freeman and Master Chief to Wander - just saying that that method of determination is flawed.

If I came off as saying characters without dialogue are inherently flawed I apologize, as that is not necessarily true at all.

Although to be fair, the scenarios between MC/Gordon and Wander are completely different and I would argue that a comparison is not exactly fair.

I similarly apologize if I misunderstood.

And no, God no I would never compare MC and GF to Wander. Hell no. The methods of storytelling are so different they're incomparable. Wander is definitely his own person, and the fact that we manage to glean as much about him as we do is a testament to the game's storytelling prowess.

Don't worry, I probably generalized too harshly.

And I compeltely agree.

The argument was 'enough character depth to warrant being considered not overrated.' And yes this IS an opinion, and one which I disagree with.

Stop taking things out of context.

1) That's not true.  Take a look at Chrono Trigger for example.  Lavos has like... no character depth.

2) Nobody in the game has much character depth anyway so it's not saying much.  His whole deal is "Oh no, i'm not human so i'm going to destroy everything and take over!".   That's not really a lot of depth there.

I mean if you want to argue the character has character depth.  You may actually want to point out what that depth is.

Where the HELL are Sephiroth and Cloud Strife?

He might be taking the word 'has character depth' in literal context (ie the game was written with him as the main villain ergo he has character depth because he is critical to the plot).

In which case I could argue that the Hat from monopoly has character depth...

where's mario I think he's overrated. Only a few games are awsome
