Having played neither series' main games (I have played spin-offs), I would contribute that on popular opinion, there is no contest between the two.

And popular opinion is the best bet we have when it comes to this sort of debate.

They really don't compare other then both being in the RPG genre. Final Fantasy should be compared most with Dragonquest.
