So, GT5 is going to sell anywhere between 1/3 to 1/2 of the total installed base for the PS3? To beat Halo 3, it has to do that. That is to say EVERY SINGLE person interesting in driving games, will pick up GT5, or the base interested in driving games on the PS3 is over 1/2 the user base of the PS3.

lol, this kind of logic won't work in this thread, I already tried.  They can't understand how user base affects game sells.

Yep don't see why not. Prologue has done 3.31 million as of December 08 according to PD website so if the extended demo can do 3 million the full game will ease past 10 million.

People quickly forget that GT remains the premier racing sim in gaming, Forza is the closest competiton which is just LULZ worthy shit right there. Halo 3 should easily finish with 11 million sold but GT5, the first flagship GT game this gen should not have a problem catching that.

If Halo 3 stopped selling today I would say yes. No way it beats it lifetime though, not possible.

Why are people writing off GT5 against Halo 3 of all games? My goodness I hope it's not the great "higher install base = higher sales" argument or I might die a little inside. :(

LEARN ABOUT MARKET SATURATION! Tell me, why did MGS3 not outsell MGS2 with a significantly larger install base?

When games sell this gen boy do they sell, prologue has already shown that the GT brand remains tremendously popular. Forza 3 has not sold much more and that is a full game and also a pack in, GT has no competition.

Anywho when the first month GT5 numbers come in people will have a serious mind fuck, 3 million first month is my prediction at worst.

i highly doubt it but i don't know what the user base was at the time of any of the gt game releases

GT5-P was also a pack in. Also that was Forza 2, and Forza 3 is likely to recieve a lot of advertising if only to attempt to spite Sony.

@ gergroy:
what logic do you speak of exactly? You said Halo 3 is where it is on a 30mill user base right? But when Halo 3 released, the 360 was NO WHERE NEAR that. Now you're trying to tell me that GT5, since we're using your user base argument (and by the time GT5 releases, the PS3 should be at at least 30mill WW), can't do 8-9mill on a 30mill user base but Halo 3 can? Yea, that kind of logic doesn't work, you're right.

Well, considering Halo 3 has more hype, and a much larger fanbase among 360 owners than GT does in the PS3 camp. I would say your argument is flawed. The fact that Halo 3 was not bundled and still sold like crazy on opening day with a smaller install base should tell you something, people love FPS and the 360 is the best machine for them. If GT5 is not bundled it will not sell as well. The only people picking up copies are those who like driving games, and that number is dwindling. You must remeber that GT5 proluge is a stripped down version of GT5, but many who bought the glorified demo will not feel the need to buy the full version. Halo 3 is a completely different animal and somewhat of a phenominon in terms of first day sales. Over the lifetime I think Halo3 will still outsell GT5 because of marketing, awareness, and word of mouth.

When did bundle = pack in?

Forza 2 came with Viva Pinata 2 here in EU for a long period of time, that was certainly not the case with prologue where people CHOSE to get the game.....not just get it as every pro console had it.
