BBCi Player now works with Xbox360

For anyone who is not familiar with the BBCi Player, it is an online digital media streaming device broadcasting catch up television and radio from many of the BBC channels on offer. A recent update to the BBCi Player has brought with it many new additions including remote desktop downloads and HD quality streaming.

Before the new update to the service it was near on impossible to break through the digital rights management, attached to the player which wouldn’t allow viewing of the shows outside of the Adobe Air client. Now that the files can be played using Windows Media Centre it really is now as simple as 1 - 2 - 3.

1: Pick a show from the BBCi Player.
2: Select More Downloads Option
3: Save to Windows Media Player

As soon as you open Windows Media Player on your Xbox360 the television shows are saved under a specific folder and can be played back flawlessly which is beneficial if you would rather watch catch up television on your TV rather than your PC.

This may come as great news to TV addicts alike so what are you waiting for, get downloading !

This wouldn't have been needed if the 360 had a web browser.

Still, it's good to know that more can view the BBC's content through more means.

Watching content in a browser sucks.  Would much rather watch the actual file full screen, full clarity using this new method.  I don't live across the pont though, so it doesn't affect me

Im still yet to try this feature, but I might have been able to write more about it if I could have been bothered to download a show first. Also though, anyone in the world can use BBCi Player from the BBC Website. If anyone else test's the picture quality before me - doing the HD option then more downloads - let me know

You've always been able to do that if you download rather than stream.

You can watch all content in full screen, anyways. What's more, BBC must use similar magicry to Microsoft in terms of download speeds, because SDTV-quality video can be streamed instantly, and Higher Quality mode only takes a couple of minutes to get started.

Alway been able to do what?

The download option for BBCi shows to be played in Windows Media Centre is a new feature?

prefer streaming it on browser. It's quick anyway and I don't have to wait for download or waste hhd space. I suppose better this than nothing.

Headline is a bit misleading though. BBC iplayer isn't coming to 360, it's just that now you can download it to watch on a ms friendly program!

You could download videos before, but I think it required special software (DRM and shit) to run, perhaps they've scrapped that, now, and that's why it works with WMC.
