 No, this is not a joke. While Sony denies all the rumors about a possible drop in price of its consoles, the speculations in question appear to confirm. 

Indeed, we learned today from a reliable source (which we thank the passage) that the price of the Playstation 3 will drop. The price is still unknown, but we may assume that it will suffer the same decline as the two previous times, ie a decrease of € 100. 
 Other good news, the PSP should follow the path of the black monolith, since the portable console from Sony will see its price rise from € 189 to € 169, probably at the same time as the ps3. Finally, finally, our source confirms the coming of a PSP2 before the end of the year, which coincided with speculation that cross the site.

We unfortunately do not know when to take effect these changes in prices, but it may be that this coincides with the E3, which runs from 2 to 4 June.
Of course, we still take this information with tongs, until Sony makes an official announcement. But remember what we said John Keller: "gonna be a huge E3"

If true MS will need to respond with another price drop of their own. It'll be interesting to see the effect, if any, on Nintendo.

how low will they go the pro is 240 euro and arcade is 180 euro while the wii is 250 euro MS had 2 price cuts in eu last year thats why there pro sku is cheaper than the wii its not like that in any other region

 

i think that the ps3 in EU will be going to 300 euro b4 NA goes to 300$ the NA and JP price cuts maybe be coming in the winter cause the way there currency adds up

The rumour is 360 will drop to 140  Euros for the pro and 80 Euros for the arcade around the beginning of September or $199/$99 in America.

 Doubt it.  They already have the cheapest consoles.  If sony cuts their price, M$ STILL has the lowest priced consoles.  Cutting the price further would be silly unless the manufacturing of the console has gotten super cheap for them recently.

It will, the Valhalla CPU/GPU combination chip goes into manufacture in May and is going to be the biggest cost reduction the console has seen or ever will see again, we're looking at a $70-100 cost reduction, it might vary even more if they're slimming down the model itself.

That ain't gonna happen.  The only two consoles in the last 15 years to have hit $99 were the GC and the ps2 (and maybe the N64 and DC, I can't recall), and they dropped that low in a period when their sales were FAR lower than the 360's current sales.

Microsoft has no need to drop the price anywhere near that much, if at all.  The 360 is selling great - better than ever.  Why take a hit on revenue so that they can sell a bit more? 

Plus, they've never dropped the price by a full $100.  Why would they do it now, when it would effectively cut the price of the Arcade in half, and when it's been less than a year since the previous price cut?
