Forums - Sony - Hideo Kojima's Policenauts and the PS3 A Match Made in the Heavens -Not ZOE

I am hoping that Hideo's next game will be on the PS3 rather than on 360 or Wii, but that's not displaying in console favoritism it is just because I like to see games be as good as they possibly can.

So I would hope that if there is a Final Fantasy VII Remake or a Kingdom Hearts 3 that they would be on the PS3 rather than the Wii because before this console gen had started and the Wii rushed out to its lead that might make it receive some games that it otherwise would not have if you had asked me the kinds of graphics I would like to see in a Final Fantasy VII Remake or a Kingdom Hearts 3, my answer would have been something vastly superior to what the Wii can do.

Likewise with Snatcher II or Policenauts II. I would much rather see them on the PS3 because I feel that Kojima's next epic cinematic adventure game will be even larger in scope than MGS 4 was and probably would take up about 100 gig of blu-ray space and I think a lot would be lost from it if irt was paired down to a 50 gig dvd 9 game.

More people would actually be more inclined to purchas Snatcher II or Policenauts II because many in the West have been waiting since the mid 90's to play them while we already know that Zone of the Enders 3 would only selll about half of what MGS4 would sold at most.

At this moment, I think most games would love to sell half of what MGS4 sold. If ZOE can manage a feat like that, then I think Hideo should be more inclined to produce a next installment of ZOE.

I still say Policenauts II with all new game mechanics would do far better.  There is a story there that though it includes some mechs fighting as ZOE did, that is much broader in scope in what its trying to do in human terms than just a game about mechs fighting like Speilberg's best movies are much more than about robots with AI and man-eating sharks.

Also, since Policenauts has always been talked about as the one Japanese game tha has only ever been released in Japan that most Europeans and Americans would want to see come to their country, I feel that it has the potential to sell many times what a ZOE game would sell and even significantly more than Metal Gear games sell.

Plus, the name Policenauts would appeal to more people as far as casual sales go.  Police Astronauts versus Zone of the Enders?  Most people could have some familiarity with what the name Policenauts would mean that rather than what Zone of the Enders means.  Kind of like Cowboy Bebop versus Gundam.

If what you say is true, why has Konami done nothing to appease it's fans? They did so with the release of MGS4 with had very, very healthly sales. I'm not trying to discredit Policenauts but, if such a demand existed, why are we even discussing the pros of releasing policenauts over a next ZOE game? Also, hasn't Kojima told some gaming article to have people email him regarding a release of ZOE? Haven't heard anything about Policenauts.

Well as I said earlier, Policenauts was going to be on the Sega Saturn in the US, but at the last minute it was pulled for some controversial elements.  I emailed him that he should release Policenauts instead.

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I'd like to see a new ZOE released.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Guidelines to understanding my train of thought:

  • THE METAL GEAR SOLID FRANCHISE IS THE BEST THING TO HIT THE PLANET SINCE THE PS3!! THUS, MGS FRANCHISE >> SLICED-BREAD.
  • Solid Snake shall and well always shove 1up mushrooms up Mario's ass.
  • Solid Snake shall and well always decimate Master Chief with a flurry of rocket launchers, shotgun rounds, and a 20 minute monologue.

policenauts and snatcher on ps3? wow niche point'n'click adventure games with light gun elements sure doesn't fit console with pointer and much lower development costs with bigger userbase but that with gamepad and highest costs, right?

who cares that nintendo consoles established already fanbase for adventure base unlike any other console.

You've got a point here ^_^

Well, if you want them to have cutting edge high definition theatre quality cinemas, what are you going to do?

The first Policenauts had several different modes of gameplay other than lightgun much as games like Heavy Rain will have various modes of gameplay.

I just found out that Policenauts has been available on the PSN's Japanese store since May '08.

@txrattlesnake

"Quality cinemas"? That's CGI, right? Wii can handle this at the same level as PS3, but on lower resolution ;) I d' prefer not "cinemas" but anime art-style. This game pefectly fits Wii\DS, unfortunately I have no hope this being released on any platform.

Well, I'm thinking the new one would be a fps game with heavy adventure elements, some racing, some mech against mech combat, and a much more realistic look like MGS4, also with a lot of epic cinematic moments.  So, do you think the Wii could play MGS4's cinema scenes?

That's just your imagination. I still insists that we likely won't see new Kojima's adventure games in vein of Snatcher\Policenauts. So called Project 'S' afaik is going to be presented in a few installments, first being radiodrama. No mention of any video games. I see no point in discussing non-existent videogame.

BTW MGS experience (MGS: Twin Snakes) was possible on GC, so why Wii can't play any MGS game? Or did you mean the graphics wouldn't be so pretty? Ah... I don't care, really.

and that's a perfect example how ps360 would destroy this would-to-be-series just like many other games. from story heavy driven game let's make just another meaningless sandbox shooter - makes perfect sense. have you even played those games?

nort to mention that snatcher and policenauts were mainly typical ADV game with anime artstyle(policenauts had only few cgi short scenes - i played it long time ago so i don't remember correctly).

bolded text: wow, its really hard to play cgi, have you seen ASH on ds? so if ds can play ASH cgi then what's the point in ps360 we can have same games on ds right? since CGI is a metric for the power of console/handheld in your eyes.
