Forums - Nintendo - Madden NFL 10 on Wii will bring 'super deformed characters' - first video

@L.C.E.C.: Thanks =D

The list of Wii announcements that people have knee-jerk negative reactions too despite there being no reason to lately.

1. The sequel to Umbrella Chronicles is a railshooter!? It must be a 4 minute long game made by 2 people for 10 bucks!
2. Dead Space Rail Shooter!? How dare they not give us the same game that came out last year with downgraded graphics!
3. Excite BOTS!? what the hell is a bot!? Nintendo must be refusing to make games worth playing!
4. Madden 10 for Wii will have some style!? Clearly EA decided to break with their tradition of using the PS2 games engine and design a brand new engine for the Wii game just because designing new engines are cheaper! EA hates Nintendo!

EA is actually focusing on the Wii version to make it the best experience they can. The fact that they've finally decided to add style instead of realistic graphics that don't hold up to their HD counterparts is a good thing. I just can't believe they haven't done it for Tiger Woods yet.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I think the reason that they've kept Tiger Woods the way it is is because the Wii version is the best selling version so they probably don't wanna screw that one up. It may also have something to do with the demographic that will buy a realistic golf simulator i.e. a middle aged man.. Most likely a realistic approach will appeal to that demographic more than something that looks like, ironically, a game.

What can I say more beyond "I kind of like the new direction" ...

In videogames there has always been the argument to produce a simulation game or an arcade game and rarely do the two ideas meet. The problem with this is that people tend to find pure simulations "Boring" and arcade games tend to lack "Depth" or they lose the "Feel" for whatever it is they're trying to emulate. Over the years EA has played around a lot with finding the right mix of simulation and arcade with their games, and some of their games (like the NBA Street games) have been pretty far in the arcade direction while other games (like Madden) have remained very simulation focused.

Now, from the very limited ammount we have seen it looks like EA is aming for a hybrid of the two styles which suits me just fine ... I think I would enjoy games that were more arcade based than Madden and yet more simulation based than the Mario Sports games.

Do we really know that they reduced the polygon count and textures? You seem to be just assuming.

I don't just mean the crowd. I mean overall.

It's already bad enough when everything in the environment looks that way, so I don't see why you can't include the crowd and environment.  I can't confirm that for sure that the players lost them, but the textures definitely don't look good at all and I'm not assuming there.

I just don't see how this will benefit sales in any way, because most who play Madden are more likely to laugh at the game before even giving the gameplay a fair chance.  Most who play Madden regularly would probably rather have EA push the Wii to its hardware limits while increasing A.I. and creating more realistic character movements and actions.  Would people notice the graphical differences between HD systems?  Yeah, but they would expect the Wii version to be a bit of a step down in those departments and would be fine with it like with 07 and 08.  But this change makes this difference so much worse and so much more noticeable.

EA doesn't hate the Wii.  I'm just not sure they know what "family friendly" really means.

But the crowd wasn't really that active on the SD games anyway. All they did was use tricks to hide it.

My thoughts as well, stof.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

man those players have HUGE HANDS

The more I watch that vid the more I want to play Madden 10 for Wii. Call me crazy but the game play for Madden on Wii thus far (08,09) just seems superior compared to the HD consoles, the gameplay for the HD consoles just seems slow and clunky. Online is horrid though, a constant lag and glitch fest.

Will be looking forward to this game for sure! :)

The environment didn't look like it does now though (stadiums, parts of the field). And by now, crowds should look better unless there's some unknown reason why it can't to me, like the Wii can't handle it.

What if that crowd look actually takes more polygons than the old style. Let's see close ups of the crowds in Wii '09 to this, rather than just assuming.
