Forums - Gaming - Is Halo reponsable for many good games today ? Yes or No ?

Halo controls very well on the console. It provided the best most tuned controls of an fps on a console. Goldeneye/Perfect Dark had good controls, but the Y-axis was very clunky and luckily, it was not used much. Halo most likely did not change much in terms of FPSs in general. Although I wish developers would embrace the idea of matchmaking and parties, that alone is something that Halo can be contributed with. Hell, M$ uses it very deeply in the framework of Live. As far as Halo 2 being laggy, I sure as hell didn't notice.

Also, the shield is what regenerates in Halo 2/3. There is actually a health system below that as well.

Also, vehicles controls are much, much, much better using analog. Probably due to the fact that they are analog.

well to be honest in my personal opinion it had some great additions to gameplay. The overall control scheme worked much better than goldeneye for sure but things like that are all about preference and of course debatable. If nothing else Halo can be seen as important to console FPS simply because it proved there is a HUGE market for them. Think about it before Halo FPS were pretty few and far in between and while many garnered sucess none were on the caliber that the genre became after Halo. Why? Because Halo sold like gangbusters. Any developer is going to be interested when they see the cash rolling in so if for nothing else yes Halo helped console FPS in that companies were much more willing to pour assets into developing them.

thats laughable in itself. The only reason it gained fame was because Microsoft was throwing money at the advertising team. Back last generation they didnt give a damn about profitability so they just spent into the red with zero care.

There are many games that have way more fame then Halo in the FPS genre. WolfenStein, Doom, Half-Life, Quake, Counter-Strike, Left4Dead, Portal, Warsaw, America's Army, Battlefield all have a way bigger following then Halo has.

Like I said, Goldeneye / Perfect Dark 'Revolutionized' FPS for Console. Halo just expanded on technology that was already there and added things that the n64 couldn't. Vehicles,Multi-player Split-Screen, Double Weapons, Addicting Game play , Bots all were prevalent prior to Halo on consoles.

Halo was a great game though. Though I don't think it has had an effect on many games.

you have to also look at the fact the system it was made on. Goldeneye would have worked 1000 times better on the PS1 because of the dual analog sticks but it was on the N64.

Alright lets get some facts straight:

Halo revolutionized the regenerative health (no more hunting for health packs ala Quake, Doom, etc...)

Halo's matchmaking service is the best their is for games of this type (at least on consoles) Alot of games have tried copying their matchmaking (including Gears 2) and fail miserably.

Halo is still one of the only online multiplayer games where vehicles are actually balanced.

It revolutionized hot buttons for grenades as well as the hot button for the melee attack.

They also made it so you can only carry two primary weapons instead of every weapon on the map.

All in all if it weren't for Halo console FPS's would not be any where near what they are today.

So yes Halo is responsible for alot of games. And I mean ALOT.

not gonna lie your missing the point here with his post. He mean console FPS certainly and the only game that is close to Halo caliber in terms of popularity on a console is Call of Duty.

1. tank drivable

2. you could hold two weapons, hell you could have every weapon but like 3 dual weilded due to the fact the watch laser, tank cannon, and i forgot the other wouldnt have worked well with two of them.

3. this is a joke right?
