Forums - Sales - If Microsoft matches Sony price cut, would the PS3 still do "gangbusters"?

Microsoft should hold off imo unless they want to DRASTICALLY reduce the lifespan of the 360.

Microsoft dropping the price to 150 this year will not drastically reduce the lifespan of the system, they can keep the 360 at that price for another 2 years, that would lead us into holiday 2011 when the next xbox should be launching.

That would leave the pro at 250 dollars, Microsoft don't have to drop the price as the 360 would be cheap enough, but a 199 dollar pro and a 129 dollar arcade is also a possibility for holiday 2010.

That's highly unlikely... the 2011 launch that is... it'll probably be 2012

Plus in the future they could exploit the business model Apple employs so well for the iPod. Reduce the price for the Arcade model to say $150, then next year you phase out the Arcade model because the price of a HDD might be neglible by that point and bump all the more expensive tiers down one notch.  Effectively giving a price drop by adding value without actually reducing the price.

Yup, Microsoft can go many a which way with the 360.
