I hope Sony doesn't get "killed" as Neoraf put it. Well, if they do, Insomniac had better keep making fantastic games. I don't care for which console, I'll just get whatever they'd develop for. =D

I think that Sony needs this so they won't be as arrogant as they have been. Hope you're paying attention, Sony!

Sega > Sony for adults. Sega in the 80s and 90s was awesome.

  • Arcades dominated by Sega.
  • Fun and competitive games, easy to grab.
  • Always technically pushing hardware and software

Sonic, Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter, Space Harrier, After Burner, Virtual On, Echo the Dolphin, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Virtua Cop, Shenmue, Outrun, omg so many more...

The new Sega (as we know it today) is nothing like the old SEGA.

Killing Sony doesn't mean bankruptcy. It may mean "becoming a mulitplatform game publisher" like Sega.

even if wii came last i don't think they would stop making consoles they still made a good profit last gen

The part you miss is that sega was never top dog in the industry. Sony on the other hand tasted pure success twice in a row. Thus it would be much harder to convince them out than it was to get them in. Remember that this is a corporation we're talking about. Even if bankrupcy was an issue, sony would also have a much greater chance than sega of getting a bailout from the JP government.

As for sega's "great days", many would argue in favor of nintendo for those generations and I'd say that part of their demise was overdoing the hardware and software technically (shenmue = 70 mil...WTF?). Funny enough, the latter can be said for sony as well this gen.

When you guys are saying that Nintendo wouldnt stop making consoles even if the Wii was a flop, look at sega people.

As a PS3 only, I'm honestly only worried _if_ they end up in a untenable position. Forced to stop production of the console hence leading to developers dropping support for the platform.

If sony can avoid that in their current position then I really have no problems with the sales. The games are still coming!

On Sega. Got to agree with Pristine20 in the sense that even at Sega's height of 'power' in the industry, they were still having only pocket success (South america, Sega seemed really popular in NZ as far as I remember, but I was a kid then.. Europe sega did well) and under performed in the Japanese and American markets compared to Nintendo.

Yes because Sega was not making a profit unlike Nintendo even when they were in last place...

Former something....

Who let the Crazzy out?

My thought exactly, even before this thread (saw him in another thread).

Otherwise I wouldn't care but I really dislike MS and Nintendo more than Sony so personally I must say I don't like this situation. Of course it's good for the consumer. What I'd really like to see are exclusives but I'm afraid that's not something that can be helped much with these development costs. All exclusives being on one console wouldn't be good though.

But Nintendo was still making a profit during the Gamecube and N64 era...

The OP is new.  It's understandable that he has no idea what he's talking about.
