Forums - Sales - Xbox 360 Software Dominates The Canadian Rental Market

Rentals mean nothing. However, this does fit my theory that a lot of 360 owners find a game fun for a mere fraction of the time other system owners would.

maybe because the 360 has more games 2 play?

Your theory holds no ground

Look at the top 10 list of games played based off Xbox Live.. These games have been out for months and some over a year.

Yet their still played... unless of course your trying to tell us they're not having fun?

Xbox 360 Top Live Titles (based on UU's)

  1. Halo 3
  2. Call of Duty: WaW
  3. Call of Duty 4
  4. Gears of War 2
  5. Resident Evil 5
  6. GTA IV
  7. FIFA 09
  8. Left 4 Dead
  9. Halo Wars
  10. Guitar Hero World Tour

Edit -

I would love to know where this theory came from? Cause from my point of view its busted by just looking at the top 10 games played on Xbox Live

Most of those are online shooters - those games tend to be played for ages.

Hell people on pc are still playing orginal Counter Strike that came shortly after Half Life 1.

Ah, your comment can be taken as proving my point or proving Montana's point

It could mean that

A) You're agreeing with me that the 360 userbase isn't as A.D.D. as Montana claims

or

B) Due to the 360's more varied library (aka less shooters compared to the PS3), 360 users tend to play more games and spend less time playing the same games.

Yeah, but your graph is pointless unless you can provide data for the other consoles for comparison. I've tried looking for the top 10 games on PSN (so far, no luck), but this site's data on Wii usage will tell you that Wii gamers are still playing older games plenty. I didn't say that Xbox 360 owners get bored of games quickly, just more quickly than other console owners. It's a part of why I think the attach rate is as high as it is. I see a lot of people on Xbox Live who own tons of games and yet have few achievements in each of them (even ones that are really easy to get). That means that either they're not playing the games, or there's some special way to hide your achievements that I don't know about.

Actually currently the Xbox 360 has a lower % of software market share relative to hardware market share: I.E Software % < Hardware %. So either they pirate, rent or are so immensely satisfied with past games that they don't move onto new ones. I would suspect its a combination of the 3 as Halo 3 for example has an average playtime of over 120 hours over x% of Live connected 360s.

Im not afraid of you anymore.

My theory is the increase in casual gamers. They tend to purchase less games, skewing the 360's software results

Rogers does not equal the Canadian rental market. There are other players in the rental market.

True, but it's a sample (a rather large one at that)... just like NPD, vgchartz, and GFk

How large are we talking about though? What is Rogers' market share of the Canadian Rental Market? I guess I'm taking issue with the leap from "Xbox 360 software tops the Rogers video game rental list" to "Xbox 360 software Dominates the Canadian Rental Market" when no stats are provided.

That could be it, though I did wonder if it had something to do with much of the Xbox 360s software being sold in bargain bin $20-30 racks which are small in number but do add up to quite a few over time because the library is older and therefore cheaper, especially from discount retailers such as Walmart etc.

Tease.

All I'm saying is that 360 owners either find games fun for a lot less time, or they buy games without getting the full enjoyment out of each one. I'd had a 360 since September of 2007. I've only bought 9 games (I think), and I still have plenty of fun with my 360. That's less than a game every 2 months. Whereas some people have like...100 games and barely play any of them. Maybe this is common with other systems as well and I just can't see it because they don't have similar achievement systems (trophies were just implemented too).

Yeah, but not everyone owns a PSP, DS, PS3, Wii, and 360....

How many games have you really purchased if we add all those up?

30 games in 12 months?

How does that really compare to 360 users who've had a console for three years and own 100 games?
