Forums - Microsoft - New Xbox360 Disc Protections? Bans to follow?

Xorloser noticed the other day that when FIFA'09 for Xbox360 is patched with the latest update, the flags that specify what media the game is allowed to run from have changed. Originally it was allowed to boot from a standard original Xbox360 disc, however now it is only allowed to boot from a newmedia type which is basically an updated version of the original Xbox360 disc type.

Those who have ever looked into the depths of the Xbox360 disc authentication scheme know that a "new" type of disc authentication has been in the works since the Xbox360 was released. It is known as the AntiPiracy v2.5 checks, or AP2.5. Is this FIFA'09 patch a sign that AP2.5 is finally going to see the light of day? If so then the ban hammer is going to come down hard

Well as far as I'm concerned this is great news for Microsoft fans. Right now you can download pretty much the entire collection of xbox360 games off the internett for free and Microsoft is losing very much money.

If people feared losing their LIVE! account they might think twice about piracy and its negative impact on the gaming industry.

Stop game theft NOW!

Start the countdown to hackendom.. now.

X360 sales in others will suffer from this if true :D

It could be pretty horrible for Microsoft actually too.

One could make an argument that without the piracy,  the console sales could see a sharp downturn and even with assumed improved software sales you also might see a drop in the amount of Live accounts.

And you could potentially see more console sales in the favor of the competition.  After all,  If I wanted to play tons of HD quality games for the cheapest possible price currently, the Xbox 360 would allow that. (Especially if I'm pirating games, I would have almost zero software costs.)

The real hardcore pirates probably still use the blades and probably don't pay for Xbox Live if we follow the whole trend that they don't want to pay for anything.

Tease.

It only takes one really clever person to find a way around something and then spread the word.
