I'm starting this thread just to gauge the opinions of the members on this site. I was interested because of the Pirate Bay trial forum.
Basically I am just wondering in a digital age, how do we define property? In a digital age it seems a bit problematic to use traditional definitions of theft and sharing- as the modern situation is anything but traditional. So what do you all think?
From a personal experience, I understand file-sharing but recognize that is simply sharing at best and illegal copying at worst.
I'm of the belief that sharing for a temporary time is acceptable with a single copy, but "sharing" with thousands of strangers is illegal. I guess this still makes the whole ordeal rather unenforceable and leads to ridiclous things like DRM enable programs.
Anyways, I am just interested in what you all think. I figure that this will become a larger issue as more things become available as products that are intangible. For example, the sale of items on World of Warcraft- How do we deal with this changing paradigm of what constitues 'property'?
