every charecter in your squad has their own personality, it makes it hard not to care weather they die or or not.... that one of the coolest features i have seen in a game..... the story is great.... whats the point of explaining it to u :P?
The RPG elements r incorporated greatly. There is even strategy to tooning your tank..... i dont even need to mention the amazing art style and graphics....

I just started getting into JRPG a month ago (Final Fantasy VII kicks ass!!!)

short answer = everything! I too didn't like the demo but gambled anyway due to the rave reviews and now I consider VC the best game on PS3. Note that I've never played a strategy RPG before...not even FF tactics. VC does is so well and you really get absorbed in the story once it starts kicking.
The story is hard to explain. Could you narrate FFvii storyline to someone?

Actually yes it is very emotional, there is a fantastic love story in it, the story also deals heavily with racism, there is a very dramatic death in the game, a couple of plot twists and betrayals. It all amazing, there you happy I spoiled it for you.
| The said: who says VC is "the best" RPG this gen??? AFAIK, VC is a very good game, worth every penny and DLC, and "deserves" better sales. However, I don't recall anyone in their right mind calling this game the best rpg this generation. Maybe the best strategy JRPG (as I doubt they're many or better). It's definitely Triple A material though, but it's still niche material. |
if we're only talking about consoles I have absolutely no issue calling it the best RPG this gen. 'course I don't enjoy WRPG's as much, so I'm biased towards a more linear JRPG. What games do you think are so clearly above it?
OT: I think the best thing that VC does is give you an entire squad of fleshed out and relatable characters. There is no "lancer 12", but there are Jann, Largo, and the guy with stunner glasses (name escapes me, but I used him all the time just so he could say "Just try and stop me!"). Every mission is completely different from the next, and it usually isn't "kill everyone" like most SRPG's come down to.
Those are the two things that stick out in my mind.
edit: also the maturity with which it deals with racism and homosexuality are examplary as far as gaming storylines go.
double edit: just to be clear, the VC girl is on the logo because we are running a contest for figurines and art books from the game.

I will say Mass Effect would have my vote for the best RPG this gen.... But the lack of polish in it cannot be overlooked.
