FF XII is better than DQ VIII in every aspect possible.

Trust me, KH is epic. As epic as FF. |
As epic as FF VIII, which is not epic at all.

i was having doubts on dragon quests old school battle system then again final fantasies new one seems interesting yet awkward as well. Which one has a better story? i want a rpg with a good story, memorable you know and also fun and addicting at the same time the gameplay. |
Well, I like Final Fantasy XII a lot, and I haven't played DQ8 but I have played a few of the games in the series and I like them too.
Don't listen to Soriku, he has experience with neither.
It depends on what you're looking for. I'd say the plot in Final Fantasy XII is better, but it's much more political than standard RPG fair.
What are some other RPGs you've liked?

The Final Fantasy XII story was very good ,including the plot twist in the game.
Dragon Quest VIII on the other hand wasn't quite that spectactular
They both had pretty 'blah' stories to me. Story tends to be my number one pre-req for an RPG, but in FFXII's case, it played so well mechanically that the story really played second fiddle.
Then again, now that I think about it, FFXII's story was rather good, but the problem was that the pacing was a bit odd so I kinda lost track/stopped caring so much.
My Top 5:
Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger
My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3
and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

The tales series is probably my favourite, umm final fantasy crisis core, star ocean on the psp, golden sun back in the gba days...after these i basically moved on to fps's with call of duty 4 and killzone 2 avent played a rpg in awhile now and with the ps3 lacking a variety of jrpg at the moment i started lookin at the ps2 collection cuz they seem a lot better.

If that's your bag then Kingdom Hearts might be right up your alley, actually.
But I'll recommend you get Persona 4, just because it's going to be easier to find new and it's supposedly a much better game.
Final Fantasy 12's combat is fun for me, but I have a feeling you might find it a bit slow, and the story is very hifalutin.
SO, yeah: get Persona 4. If you decide to get Kingdom Hearts, just get the first one.
If you want an epic boss fight, get FFXII. There is a hidden boss, or "mark" in the game with 50 million HP. It took me over ten hours to beat it. Yiazmat.
