I don't get this. Why should EA have to pay players that nobody remembers? You create a team with Joe Montana as the quarterback, Jerry Rice as receiver and a bunch of John Does around them (and you basically call them John Doe.)

I don't see how a former player is going to win a lawsuit because one of those unnamed players plays in the same position he used to.

Because they are using their likeness. Madden games always include the Super Bowl winning or NFL Championship teams. They have the 85 Bears, 89 49ers, or 91 Redskins, etc. in the game. Sure they'd change the players numbers and not list their names but it's still their likeness. If they don't want to pay the retired players then don't include their teams in the game. It's a slap in the face. EA is directly profiting off their accomplishments without giving them a red cent.

I get that, but what is their likeness? If that is scrambled too and a generic substitute is used (it would just be foolish for EA to omit that if they get rid of numbers) Then what do the players have clain to other than stats (as was mentioned) and their position and year?

If they are using a Championship team of yesteryear. EA is using the likeness of the players on that team. Whether they "scramble" their data or not.

At the very least, the are using the correct height, weight, position, and years of experience.  I believe that they also have the correct stats as well.

I believe they should just go after EA although Madden did collect a shit load of money. I agree with theRepublic and Onyxmeth. Also, ssj12 how can you say there aren't any legends from the NFL. I could list way more recognizable names than you could for baseball.

Considering that ssj12 only named a candy bar as his legendary baseball player, I'm fairly sure you could take him.

I just didnt feel like listing more than one person. I could have easily listed Jackie Robertson, Mickey Mantle, Cy Young, etc. And yes I used Ruth Cleveland's nick name as its more recognizable for most people.

Also, I hate the NFL with a passion, so really I couldnt name a SINGLE NFL player other than Dan Marino and John Madden (obviously) who was my favorite quarter back when I did actually want it. I just hate greedy pricks.

Still I know Take Two got screwed by the NFLPA. This is what I meant by my last paragraph. They screwed TT from licensing retirees to the sport.

I think you might mean Jackie Robinson, not Robertson.

So far in this thread ssj12 has messed up the following:

Babe Ruth (calling hime Baby Buth)

George Herman Ruth (calling him Ruth Cleveland)

Jackie Robinson (calling him Jackie Robertson)

Jackie Robertson lol.. That was pretty funny. My favorite player from MLB would be Don Mattingly. He was a bad ass even though they never went to the World Series while he was on the Yankees. Then the year after he retired they started winning. Tis a shame but oh well. Soon after he left the game I started disliking MLB (started becoming too boring to watch). Now with the steroid bullshit I have lost almost all respect for the game. The playoffs are sort of interesting to watch. Pretty much I can stand to watch baseball highlights and that is about it.

Ssj12 is actually managing to prove his point with his screwups, though. He's proving that people that don't really know jack-squat about MLB still (at least vaguely) know about the legends.

Meanwhile, people that don't really know anything about the NFL... still probably won't know anything about the NFL legends.
