Forums - Sony - Could M.A.G. turn into a huge system seller?

I'm rather confident I will be getting this "massive action game". The name fits the game nicely since it will have 256 players on the same server. :)

I don't even like shooters since I think if you own one you've seen them all, only other shooter I'm currently enjoying is metal gear online since it isn't even a pure FPS.

It will be nothing of the calibur of KZ2 which is the only good shooter I see on the PS3. The pictures i've seen of it are lackluster. It looks like a poorman's Socom.

We've barely seen much of MAG and unlike KZ2, this game isn't focusing on being a graphics whore. KZ2 failed to take the shooter crown from CoD4/5 on PS3. Actually, if you check out some screenshots of CoD4, it looks like any other generic military FPS based in the middle east.

Any shooter has a chance of being a system seller, but if done right, a 250+ game could be insane. The last game I played that came close to this game's scale was Joint Operations on PC. It supported 150+ players and it was amazing. The maps were set in huge jungles and there was tons of different vehicle types, including ships. It was a fun game but had some noticeable flaws.

Its a FPS game so it'll need to be innovative for it to sell consoles. Or have Halo in the title. And i dont think this game will be or have any of that.

I wouldn't use the word innovative, but the huge scale of the game is very unique and changes the game play considerably IMHO.

Yeah.. but i still feel like this will be a standard FPS, good guys vs bad guys, kill them dont die. But these "mini assignments" each squad are supose to have might change that up a bit. But until i see some more innovative game play and/or a in depth dev. walktrough of this game. I cant say im too excited about this game.

I don't think so, its new game. Not even the first Halo was a huge system seller. I think the game will get decent first week sales. I don't know much about the game and when its coming out. We will just have to wait and see what to expect from this title.

What world are you living in? Of course the original Halo was a huge system seller. Halo was the main reason to buy the original Xbox, hence why it was dubbed the "Halo Box" by fans and haters alike. Your knowledge couldn't be anymore false.

Mag doesn't look impressive at all. It will just be a tournament style game ripping off Socom's style. Any game on the PS3 is focused on being a graphics whore (You do know this don't you?).

Enjoy it, but it wont be a system seller. I have far better PS3 games to look at.

isnt mag going to require a subscription? i cant really see a subscription based mmo becoming a huge system seller.

World of Warcraft. Then again...WOW is a WRPG, so it actually has more use.

I just read the in-depth preview of M.A.G. in the latest issue of Game Informer and it looks like it has the potential to be mind blowing.  Considering the popularity of multiplayer combat games such as Call of Duty, this game could be a huge feather in Sony's cap if it is done right.  Could this potentially sell a PS3 to all of those frag happy people who have only played games on the 360 up until now?  I think this game looks like it could be incredibly tantalizing to the Halo crowd.

Again...this is assuming the game turns out to be good.  It needs to be a fun all-around package, not just rely on the 256 player thing.  The high player count needs to be what puts it over the top.

That crowd already belongs to Killzone 2.
