Anyone know if Sony is making profits on ps3 yet, or did they break even. If they didnt tell me your prediction when they will be making a profit, and how making a profit might change things.

they are right now in a technology change facing from 65nm to 45nm.

they would be already if it wasn't for the weak dollar though.

Sony is selling the PS3 at a meager loss. Almost certainly less than $40. They'll start making a profit on PS3 hardware when the 45nm Cell revisions come sometime around June or July, according to David Reeves.

With the PS3 hardware making a profit, Kaz Hirai and Sir Howard Stringer will convince investors and shareholders that the PS3 is fully on track to recuperating its development costs. This will give them the leverage to issue a major price drop in Q4.

Well back in December of 2008 the PS3 was losing $40 on every PS3 (Cost about $440 to make a PS3). By now that should of went down a bit, also like the people above me said, the Cell will be shrinking to 45 nm around the summer, and I heard the RSX is supposed to shrink to 45 nm before the Cell, so pretty soon.

Sony said they will be breaking even on the PS3 in 2009, so it's only a matter of time.

i believe it not costs them 481 to make 1 ps3 but that might be an old number
if they drop the price soon they wont make a profit until liek 2011...

aren't they about even on each sale now, or even making a very small profit?
