The prologue was bundled for a short time and was at no point a pack in, according to the PD website 3.31 million copies of the prologue have been sold and that was last updated in December 2008.
I have no idea about the production cost of the game but surely with these many prologue copies sold, developent costs are close to being wiped out by now. :/
