“This is . . . information that we as a team, optical disc drive team, knew about. When
we first discovered the problem in September or October, when we got a first report of disc
movement, we knew this is what’s causing the problem.”
"As Microsoft admits, because all of the Xbox 360 ODDs are defectively designed, a
replacement ODD is just as likely to scratch game discs as the prior ODD. When asked why
Microsoft would attempt to assuage an unhappy customer by replacing an ODD with a new
ODD of the same defective design, Microsoft’s corporate representative testified, “although we
know…the console must have been moved, we still want to give the customer an option or an
opportunity to keep playing the [Xbox 360] and enjoying the system.” Park Dep. 105:20-25.
Jose Garcia, the Microsoft head of Repair and Refurbishment, likewise testified that the
replacement was, “[j]ust to give the customer a new optical drive so that…from a customer’s
perspective, they’re getting a new device, and that improves customer satisfaction.”"

Doesn't this sound like Microsoft thinks their 360 customers are stupid or something, providing this placebo like this?
You also hear a lot of applauding from Microsoft's "extended" warranty, now covering E74. E74 was a relatively uncommon problem untill after the XNE firmware update. Microsoft acknowledged that RRoD issues may now show up as the E74 error. To me it seems, the now prevalent E74 errors are just RRoDs. Just since the XNE update the 360's behaviour changed. Why applaud Microsoft for something that was already covered by RRoD warranty? And this only after pending Class Action Lawsuits in both RRoD and E74 cases?
They denied everything, like they still do towards customers regarding disc scratching today. A Dutch TV program's summary and investigation from Kassa, they demonstrated that apart from the deeply carved circle problem, the XBox 360 can even scratch discs unmoved during laboratory conditions:

A person I know (like many other vivid 360 fans) repeatably attacked Sony and PS3 (the bulk of which proved to be wrong and/or exaggerated). He followed Microsoft PR, initially claiming RRoD were very few incidents when my 360 died, even when his one died including the refurb, he claimed the issues would be solved with this and that new model, until he got an Elite which died as well. He's still such a blind fanboy though...
Why all these double standards? If this was Sony many 360 fans, often people stating to never have the intention of buying a PS3 since well before launch, would be screaming (like they already do regarding most trivials)...
