Forums - Sony - Main Force behind God of War leaving Sony

Complaints about God of War 2 being too much like the last ones... it's a sequel, they usually don't change huge amounts.

Metroid Prime 3 is very similar to the last 2 correct? (outside of controls).

Halo 3 multiplayer is the same old thing refined as expected.

Mario Galaxy is the essential Mario 64 game with a few things added and set in space.

Twilight Princess is based around Ocarina of Time, looks better and has a different story.

See a pattern here?

No question. Which was sort of my point. Sequels are relatively easy when compared to doing something new. So to say that losing Jaffe (though I guess he's not leaving completely) isn't a big deal based on a sequel may not be accurate. Look at all those Miyamoto created Nintendo franchises. Many of them have long been in the hands of other developers,a nd those franchises haven't suffered. Where Miyamoto really helps Nintendo is in creating new IPs, not rehashing past work. Now I don't know what else Jaffe has done - GoW may be his one big success, and all we'll see in the future is shit, but even so I give more credit to someone who did something new than someone who did the sequel.

1. Controls made Metroid Prime 3 an entirely new game in addition to many new aspects of gameplay and reinovations of the Metroid franchise that brought this one to life, only its graphical similarity to its predicessors made it anything like them. Have you even played all three Metroid Primes? Your claims are those of someone who hasn't.

2. Halo 3, let's wait for the game to come out before jumping to such brash conclusions.

3. If by similar to Mario 64 you mean they both have Mario and are 3D? Seriously Ckmlb, what a piss poor comparison, your over eagerness to try and defend GOW is really showing in this one.

4. Twilight Princess really wasn't like Ocarina in Time, in fact many fans criticized it for not being enough like Ocarina of time. Have you actually played Ocarina of Time, because listening to your comparison of it to Twlight Princess really makes it sound like you haven't?

The Problem is Ckmlb, the only one of these sequals that could any way be so close to its predicessors as to be considered a copy & paste clone like GOW2 was, is Halo 3, and even then that's unsubstantiated speculation. Maybe you should try playing the game first before making such allegations. Games like Metroid, Zelda and Mario will always seem similar in that they need to keep certain elements of gameplay unique to themselves or risk ceasing to exist as the franchises they are, but they are clearly their own unique instalments, not clones like GOW2. If you're too eager to defend something you're just going to make a piss-poor argument, and by god, you did.

1. Motion controls do not make it a new game, just look RE 4 on Wii is the same game as before with motion controls. Lots of backtracking, similar types of puzzles, similar design for the most part, so what is the big change?

2. I've played the beta and so has lots and lots of people and everyone knows the multiplayer is the same with enhancements. Why would you change something that works? Since the basics of play are the same in multiplayer, the single player will be different in story and feel not in the core of the game.

3. You disproved me how? Tell me how Mario Galaxy is different from Mario 64 outside of graphics, setting and Wii controls and a few new suits and moves and whatnot? Mario Sunshine was a departure from Mario 64 (a bad one) and this is a return to it. I can't understand how you can't see they play exactly the same with refinements.

4. All the core of Twilight Princess gameplay is straight from Ocarina of Time. Ocarina of Time laid the foundation and Twilight Princess is building on it. Maybe you need to go play both again and compare how the basic game is the same.

The first game sets the standard and then sequels build on it, it's been the same always. The only times that this wasn't the case is when for example Mario and Zelda went 3D and of course htat changed the game. Same with Metroid. Also your claim that GOW 2 is a clone but Twilight Princess isn't already tells me where you come from. You sound a lot like a certain someone I know. Your RE 5 petition further directs me in that direction. Not to mention you started numbered lists for no reason exactly as he/she used to. Lots of coincidences there.

But why are you interested in RE 5 anyway? It will disappear in the gigantic Blue Nintendo Ocean of great casual games, it's a dying franchise that is too lowly for the Wii...

CKMLB...I don't really want to get into this discussion, but as a Metroid fan I take exception to this reasoning.  RE4 on Wii is a port.  It is not a sequel.  It has motion controls tacked on.  If you can actually say that you have played Metroid Prime 3 (not saw it played or watched videos) please say so, otherwise I will assume that you have not played the game and, therefore, your rationale is made based upon assumption and not something far less respectable.

Metroid Prime 3 plays nothing like Prime or Echoes.  The layout of the worlds is much different and the general feel of the game is nothing like its predecessors.  In some ways this makes me feel a little uneasy, in fact, as I have not completed the game and may in the end wish that the original feel had been kept.  Not in control, but in level design.

I have not played God of War and I really can't comment on how much the second differed from the first.  I just don't think it is wise to use the RE4 analogy with MP3.

Did he just say SMG is the same thing as SM64 and then go one to list a bunch of things that do make it different? Seriously, have you watched many videos of SMG and play SM64?

While I agree with your other games in your list (RE4 aside since it's the same game, lmao) as is the nature of sequels but the departure in SMG from SM64 is rather huge.

Jaffe's new studio is called Eat, Sleep, Play and will continue to focus on PS platforms.

As Lee Corso would say- "I agree with you, 100%!" Taken directly from NCAA Football 2008.

@super_etecoon

That is no different then some wii or 360 fan bashing Lair despite never playing the game or touching the SIXAXIS, but they justify it because of its poor reviews. I am a fan of Lair and it bothers me that people criticise a game they've never played. Is Metroid Prime 3 an exception because it recieved a great score? I don't think so. If fanboys are justified to bashing games they don't play, then anyone can. It should work both ways.

So this may be a silly question, but I keep seeing people talk about God of War 3 and I've always been under the impression that the game hadn't been announced. Did I completely miss the announcement or is anyone that talks about God of War 3 just being hopeful?

Badger...I have taken issue only with the analogy that it is like RE4 on Wii. The Lair business is inexcusable, agreed, but what do you expect from fanboys. Lets not sink to their level, k.

Since God of War 2 never finished the story of Kratos people assume that a 3rd one is on the way.

Wow, could you guys get over the whole Lair thing already? Someone has to bring that game up in almost every thread it seems like. BTW, I played it and it sucked, so let's move on.

Currently Playing:

PS4 - Killzone:SF and Assasins Creed 4

XBox One: BF4, CoD:Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5

Changing channels with my voice: priceless!!!

@super_etecoon

I'll agree about RE4, but you know how criticising games without playing them can frustrate fans of a particular game (in this case, Metroid Prime 3) Hey just be happy that this won't turn into a Lair type thread. @WEWdeadeye I was making a point, if you could read entire post, you would have got the point. But I assume reading more than one sentence can take a toll on your mind.
