Having played neither one, I have an honest, non-fanbaiting question. How much "new" was done with GOW2? It's not THAT hard to continue down a path someone else has already started to set down. If it was "more of the same, but better", then I'm not sure Jaffe's influence can be minimalized. If it improved and innovated substantially, that's another matter. |
God of War 2 was a great game, but it really wasn't a sequel, it was just a continuation from the first game. The only dissapointment in the game was that it was still painfully short and did absolutely nothing new. In all fairness, how much new can you do with a game that did it so well the first time, but still it felt almost like they were afraid to stray from what Jaffe had help create and as a result the game was a very timid attempt at going beyond its predicessor.
I worry the sequels may suffer the same fate of being exactly the same game over and over, but to be
honest, that doesn't seem to bother the fans or sales.
