Forums - Sony - Final Fantasy virgin.

I got some questions..

I havent played any of the FF games, and i havent even seen the gameplay live. But, I just watched some gameplay of the new FFXIII on gametrailers (since the game seem to be a big thing around this forum and all), and I have to say I got a bit excited. Looks great.

Im not a big RPG fan, though I did enjoy Kingdom Hearts on my PS2 (dont know if that qualifies as a RPG but people says its a Final Fantasy rip off). And I like my fair share of World of Warcraft for my PC.

So my questions are; Does the whole "magic, item, fight" - clickaction work on a console? Or does it get messed up when you have to be quick about your attacks? Do I have to play any of the other games to really understand FFXIII? Is this a sequal to any of the previous games, or can I enjoy it as a stand alone game? Will I like this game? And what is this Final Fantasy Versus thingy thats PS3 exclusive?

Thanks.

You can jump and start with anyone you please seeing that none of the series in any way are related ( well only on two ocasions ) but it all depends whether you like turn base or not.

*Edit- i never finished my point*

So i suggest you play XII first to get a grasp of how XIII will be.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is an action RPG exclusive to PS3 which should be much like KH. Do not worry, it willl pop your FF cherry nicely and you'll be happy with the game.

The only sequal in the Main FF series is FFX-2... which is a sequal to FFX. Also some cell phone game that was a sequal to FFIV. Other than that all the games can't be played stand-alone.

4 ≈ One

FFXIII isnt turn based now is it?
And why are they releasing two FFXIII (FFXIII Versus) games? Is it two different stories or do they have anything in common? And if so, why is one exclusive and the other one not?

you havent played any FFs. this is blasphemy¡¡¡¡¡¡¡. you have to play them all. dont worry you can play them in any order, they dont have relations between each other. except for FFX and FFX-2.

@MAFKKA
there making some thing called Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII which is the collective name of a series of games made under the Final Fantasy XIII label by Square Enix in which all the game have to deal with crystals

I haven't played any either so don't feel too bad.

you can learn a lot by reading this article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabula_Nova_Crystallis_Final_Fantasy_XIII , and by reading the articles for the 3 games that are linked from that article.

but in a jist, ill attempt to answer your quesitons.

none of the FF games, like others have said, are linked to each other, except for FFX and FFX-2. the most popular of the series, however, tend to be FFVII and FFX, which are both very RPGish. most of the FF games[i havent played any before FFVII, so i cant speak for them] are turn-based, so little-to-no quick thinking is required. all of them have unique battle systems though, with FFXII being the only real-time battle system. you can surely play FFXIII without playing any other FF game, but i highly recommend investing in a few of the previous FF games. you can also play it without playing either of the other 2 games in the Crystallis series, as they all 3 take place in the same universe but are stand-alone from one another. the FF used to be exclusive to the playstation brand, but last years E3 that changed when FFXIII was announced to be multiplatform. FFvsXIII is still exclusive to the PS3[as of now], and FFXIII agito is exclusive to the PSP.

Ohh, I wish I was you so I could play 6,7,8,9 and 10 for the first time all over again. I'm generally not a fan of turn based games and prefer third or first person shooters, but those games are just pure gold. No other games really come close.

ps; 10-2 looked too girly for me so I didn't touch it. Never played 11 because it never really took off in my country and I didn't like 12 that much. Still a good game though.
