Forums - Nintendo - Did you hear about the Ghost Busters Wii version?

This is probably the first time since Wii Sports that I'm going to stand up playing a game.  I wish I could step on the balance board to to trap the ghosts as I zap them.

Question: Wasn't the Wii version supposed to have coop or something?

Yeah if you have the HD version, and a friend over, you have to take turns playing.  Talk about a true next-gen experience.

Let me get this straight.

You're complaining that the Wii iteration of the video game representation of a family movie is done in a family friendly art style?  Do I have that correct?   A family movie - family friendly art style.  And you're complaining and demanding respect for the Wii of developers by suggesting they use a realistic art style on Wii of a family oriented movie.

OK, now that we have the facts, carry on.

Yeah, you did not read the whole thread. Why would you? That would be a huge waste of time.

I did up to that post (and I'll likely read the rest) and I can honestly say it was a waste of time.  Aside from MadKiller contradicting himself, I think this thread really comes down this: the Wii is damned no matter what happens.

  • The developer can do something like Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and go for the same look as the HD consoles and get ridiculed for looking like shit.
  • The developer can go for a stylized look that sets it apart from the HD consoles and they get ridiculed for not trying to look like the HD games.

Did I get that about right?

By the way, love the Wii trailer just released today!

Go look at screen shots from some orignal xbox games, those game even hold up today. There is no reason Wii games can't look that good.

So now we're just talking opinions.  I think the Wii screens look great.  You're just upset for some odd reason (about a game you're not even buying!) that the style is different.

Activision and Atari both rightly realized that trying to simply dumb down the HD versions of the game and adding motion controls would not do.  It is more often than not a recipe for failure.  So what do they do?  They wisely made a completely different version that appeals to both consoles strengths.  Can you really fault them for that?

Plus the HD versions use the Unreal 3 engine, which aside from one mystery developer, has not been shown to work with the Wii.

BTW, what engine does the Wii version use?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Wii mote >>>>> realistic graphics

Wait what?  The Ghostbusters engine doesn't use UE3.  I mean they are shopping their own engine that the game is made on.

Infernal Engine or some such.

Yeah, I read the whole thread. I do that.

I just wanted to sum things up.

I'm mad that devs are making this game look different than the other versions. It makes me think that they have the mentality that only "kiddy looking" games sell on the wii.

Perhaps you are looking at the situation backwards.  The Wii iteration is most fitting for the content and demographic.  It could therefore be concluded that the PS3/X360 versions had to be changed because the family friendly art style would not sell well on those consoles.

Note the rating difference.  Why is the PS3/X360 version rated T?  It's based on a PG movie series.  It seems more like the PS3/X360 version is the one alterd to fit a fanbase not totally fitting the movies demographic.

Most GB fans are older than me (21). This franchise is aimed at 30 somethings, not 10 year olds.

Do you know what E10 means? It does not mean 10 year olds. Means Everyone 10 and above.

T means T. so 13+.  HUGE DIFFERENCE MAN.

What? When did they change this rule?

The never changed the Rule that is what E10 means, I guess you just never knew what it ment.

Not to mention, I think your right, they are aiming the game at the adults as well but not only, cause they will remember how cool GB is, and see the rating and go shit yer I can play this wih my children.

This equals more SALES.

I remember twesterm stating that was for physics (on all versions), while UE3 is for the rest of the game. Guess I remembered wrong.

EDIT: Forgot the last part.

They are all built on infernal engine which is a multiplat engine that works on all consoles this gen.

They both use the Infernal Engine, the engine Terminal Reality has been working on for a while and is now licensing out.

And if you want to see some of the awesome physics and dynamic physics based obstacle avoidance stuff it's doing:

Also, forgot to say thanks to the kind words from Words of Wisdom and Kasz, love the support and even love to see people excited over the Wii version like Rhubang, yall rock.  ^^

I just know they made Terminal Velocity which was an awesome game back in 95, one of the coolest games ever back then =).
