I wasn't expecting it to be huge... but I honestly expected much better.

"Hey guys look at me I am going to try to take on one of the world's biggest franchises on its home turf."

I guess I can see there strategy. Put GTA out just before pokemon platinum to get some good sales before it is released then shoot for a boost when the DSI comes out. I guess take two was hoping GTA would be a system seller with the DSi. The true test of this game will be its holiday season.

Though I am surprised by how far off it was tracked.

Michael Pachter predicted 450,000, that must be the miss of the Century.

 Sounds like that falls within the standard Pachter margin for error

89k is clearly a disappointing start for a game of GTA's calibur. But hopefully it'll have the usual GTA and DS forever legs.

It's a great game. I'm loving it.

Most people I know with a DS are interested in it, but as with all handhelds, people don't buy the games day one. Hell they'll probably buy it in like a years time or something.

Unfortunately the people I know that are really interested in it don't actually own a DS.

Me too - even the "disappointed" analysts predicted at least 200,000.

At least the "disappointed" analysts predicted the number close to what VGC has.. but this NPD number is more than 50% off from everyone else. Doesn't everyone, including NPD, get the data from almost the same sources (retailers)?
