Forums - General Discussion - Tea Parties: Whats really going on?

Well...you kind of have to account for the fact that blacks were systematically discouraged from learning for centuries and were usually killed if they could read. And they were also bred like cattle for physical traits rather than mental traits for the same amount of time.

So if you don't take that into account, yes, it does just involve economic status and family status.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Also... please tell me you know HOW income gap is calculated.

Cause they just make median averages. They don't account for the tons of other issues that exist that aren't race related.

You have to use medians because there are white people like Bill Gates who own BILLIONS and would unnaturally skew population statistics.

Hence why White Women and Black Women make almost the same.

Women are even worse off than black people!! lol you don't even understand what the statistics show??

Also why asians basically tie white men... and asian women do better then both white and black women. Are people more racist against White women then Asian women?

The data does not lie! Please understand this。

When you account for all factors.... you'd be surprised.

You surprise me with every post XD

The current problems tend to be culturally based and transformative assets.

It would be great if those black people had the hundreds of years of house ownership and family legacy to fall back on, but unfortunately not everyone began from the same starting line.

For example... even when all situations are equal.  Whites tend to have a wealth gap... do to transformative assets.

Only due to the fact they were "employed" (enslaved) by those people who did have transformative assets. It's hard to own a house if you are prohibited by law.

The problem is... these are also issues white and asian families suffer from.

Data does not lie.  But people often misintepret it.  You don't seem to understand the data... and why for example i objected to a Median view.

Being a woman is a lot worse then being black.

Here I see a problem.

You are using statistics to promote one kind of discimitory behavior... (against asians) and decrying statistics when used for another type. (Against african americans)

You stated yourself. Lower economic stauts+ Less support+ Single parent families. Aren't these more likely to be the causes of said problems in the first place?

Asians are not really supported by AA anymore because they were able to pull themselves out of the hole. Plus, it was never as deep to begin with.

When Asians started immigrating to the states they still had their names and their language.

Black people were stolen and dumped here with no names, no common language, and no rights. Whites even attempted to breed out intelligence!!!

The situations were different.

If that is the case, like I said, they have a discrimination suit on their hands. People are quick to blame "the system" than let their pride take the hit.

If you want to keep harping on the fact that white people are more qualified, well a) that's racism right there, and b) whites have better education opportunities than minorities, referencing back to that 90% which I mentioned in the above post.

Ugh... you seem to not realize this is a socioeconomic issue.

Not a racial issue.

You should of been taught this in your Race and Gender class.

It's common stuff for both Psych and Soc Race and Gender classes.

That's not even an issue.  Affirmitive Action is supposed to make up for past racism.  Not current racism.

PAST RACISM IS CURRENT RACISM!!

It's supposed to treat the fact that black people are poorer on average... which hurts education on average... this hurts their chances to get jobs on average, which hurts the perception of affrican americans, which keeps education lower.

What are you talking about!?! How does AA hurt education??????

None of this has to do with racism at all.  Except for past racism.

Past racism and history is the reason why people are racist today!

Past racism is not current racism.

The effects of Past racism linger on today but that does not make todays problems due to current racism.

By trying to make up for it with restitution you only prolong the problems of today.

Affirmitive Action does hurt education... but not the point I was making.  The point I was making was that the problems African Americans suffer has nothing to do with present racial differences and everything to do with current economic and cultural differnces.

Lets say your family and my family are having a competition to see who could make the  most sand castles.

So... our grandparents start the competion.

Your Grandparents have a shovel and bucket.

It's illegal for my grandparents to have a shovel and bucket....  Your Grandpa gets a big lead.

Our Fathers start... my Father is now aloud to own a bucket.  No shovel though.  He goes and buys it.  Your father takes advantage.

Now we go.  We're both equal at this point in tools.  You have a huge head start in sandcastles.

My problems with your lead has nothing to do with current racism.

That's what I said. I said it during the prelims too. You will see a black man before a white woman in the white house.

History teaches these things.

I actually am taking that into account.  That's what we call past racism and a problem with "Transitive assets".

That's part of "economic status" .

Yeah sexism is way worse than racism (though they're both horribly evil of course). That's half the world hating on half the world, not just several smaller chunks hating each other in every direction.

The only reason Asian women make more money than white women is because everybody's racist and assumes that all Asians are smart and studious tech whizzes and that all Asian women are silent and subservient, so they make good workers. Racism and sexism are a deadly combo. And of course, most white managers see Asian women as more exotic, so they're more welcome in the workplace.

The point you were missing their Prof.

White Women and Black Women make about the same amount of money.

Being a Black Woman seems to hold extra negatives.

The problems with medians is they don't account for craploads of effects.

Like transitive wealth.  Transitive wealth is the biggest problem Black people have.  It's also the biggest problem all poor people have.

For example... watch the documentry "Race: The Power of Illusion"

http://www.pbs.org/race/000_General/000_00-Home.htm

When wealth is equal. Outcome tends to be equal.

WEALTH is the issue.
