Forums - Sony - PlayStation still exists only because of Final Fantasy VII.

Japan is where all the top games came out diring the 32 bit gen. Metal gear Solid, Residnet Evil, Final Fantasy, Tekken, VF...you name it, its from Japan.

If Final Fintasy chose Saturn, many others may have followed as Square was the 3rd party leader that gen.

Resident Evil 2, MGS on the saturn...and future of the PS brand doesn't look so good.

However didn't sony buy a part of Square to make sure FF7 comes to PS1?

First games I played on the ps1 were twisted metal, crash bandicoot, wipeout and demolition derby. Final Fantasy was pretty unheard of where I come from until my brother won FFVIII in a competition. It arrived in a blank case with no instruction booklet :D At first I thought the game was really weird and might suck, but ended up loving it.

My point is, I was far more impressed with what the ps1 had to offer than what the sega saturn had at the time.

wasn't the ps much cheaper than the saturn? i think that's why i went with sony.

i think wii sports and the controller made the wii more than mario did.

Dude most chose sony cause they offered the best deal not cause FF was coming out for it. Saturn was much much harder to dev for then PS, most devs simply had no idea how to program for it. Saturn was a pain while N64 was held back by cartridges.

For most there was only one option, and Sony capitalized on it.

FF was not that big until the 7th one on PS, you could turn it around and say PS made FF what it is today. Highest non PS ff was only 3.4 million, PS tripled that.

That may be true, to an extent, but big deal. I don't think FFVII is the ONLY reason PS took off but it was a contributor.

Let put it this way. FF7 was one of the reasons that PS1 got all thsoe sweet exclusives that made it take off like it did.

Its not that hard to understand now is it ?

Sony offerd devs/publishers the best deal thats why it got all those sweet exclusives.

Another REALITY based reason for all those sweet exclusives is that Saturn was too complex and porting was hard as fuck while due to cartriges porting to n64 was not much of a option.

Sony gave the indusrty a way away from Segas crazy hardware and Nintendos greed.

Haha yeah right there are plenty of games beside FFVII that were good get out of here

i remembered back when i was young and wanted to play final fantasy on my n64. if only i knew back then to get a PS to enjoy this masterpiece.
