Forums - Microsoft - Should my friend get RROD?

My friend's DVD drive won't read 360 games anymore and MS wants him to pay $100 for the repair. This is the second time his 360 has broke and he's obviously pissed about it (1st time wass RROD). So let me ask you if this is a good idea: Should he purposely give his 360 RROD? Then send the bitch back to MS for a full repair? He called MS to tell them about the failure, so I wonder if they would have him on file or somthing.

You think he should? Or wait for 360 price drop again?  Currently it reads DVD's (not games) and he can play dowloaded games on his HD.

How is he going to make the 360 intentional get a RROD if he only has DVD movies and HDD games to work with that's nothing to push the hardware to the max. I definitely wouldn't pay $100 to Microsoft to have it repaired since you can buy a arcade for only $100 more or if you technically savvy you can replace the DVD drive for a lot less then $100.

If it gets hot enough it will RROD on its own. Might I suggest a towel?
If he gave them any info when he called, such as Serial # or telephone # they will have a record of it. Last time my son got RROD, they had all my info and I just had to verify.

If it were me, I would wrap it up in a warm cozy towel. Keep a careful eye on it. Keep a fire extinguisher handy, and as soon as the red light show begins, give MS a call.

  Tifa got MOVES!

^^^Good idea I agree with what he said.
