I decided to put this in the MS forum, because the original question of my OP was wether or not MS has established the brand loyalty that Sony thought they established after 15 years. Sony, is relevant in this discussion, but the main focus in MS.

i think Microsoft has the least brand loyalty of them all actually.
I mean microsoft isnt the top dog in anything really.
they just have enough money to be in everything.

Gaming=Nintendo
OS=apple
Music=ipod.

I believe people are loyal to specific game franchises or genres. Which ever system delivers on it gets the player.

OP:  Sony believed that the kids, teenagers, adults... fuck everybody pretty much owned a PS2... would buy a PS3 due to their brand name's strength, recognition, and hopefully loyalty that was established over the years. Sony was fucked pretty hard in the ass when they over estimated that brand loyalty.

I think he wasn't meaning literally everyone. There are people who went for the xbox and the gamecube. But there was a vast majority that had the PS2. I personally didn't own one until after the PS3 came out. x.o

 

I had the Xbox and the GC.  I bet you must be one of those guys who are pissed @ the PS b.c. fiasco.

Microsoft has established a foundation with unified Gamertags and Achievements. People will probably want to take that with them to the next console. Why throw Achievement points away when you can add to them?

Competition gaming uses 360s also. Look at the 'WCG Ultimate Gamer' on Sci-Fi channel. Xbox is a recognized brand.

I go where Halo 4 goes or Bungie goes. If Bungie makes a PS3 exclusive, I will buy a PS3. They have earned my respect for their impeccable ability for toned gameplay.
